Stitches Defined?

Having a go with the purple Lizbeth again, as I have a heap of it on my shuttles, I am giving it a critical once over, once again.

To be sure, in tatting the Mary Konior chain pattern, 'Sweethearts', it  is definitely difficult, by the nature of the pattern itself, to get a defined stitch.

#11 Motif Challenge

Here, in this simpler motif, I can see the shape of each ds more clearly.  However, as I tatted it, the thread was just as twisty, and it separated when pulling through the picots.

  1. Could your purple ball be one of those faulty ones that the old manufacturing plant in China, before Barbara Foster switched to another one that produced a higher quality end product?

You should email Barbara (if that is where you purchased your thread) and ask to have it replaced.

I have never had such perplexing issues with Lizbeth threads, though others have.

Have you ever tried Omega thread from Japan? (I haven't tried it yet.)

  2. Hi, Isdihara,

I bought this particular ball last year at a tatting event.

Omega? Love that thread! Very silky and great to tat with!

  3. I have to agree with Isdihara. It definitely sounds like you have one of those faulty balls of Lizbeth. I haven't had any problems with the thread. Is this the only ball you have? If so, perhaps I could send you some samples of the Lizbeth I have.

  4. Hi, Jeff,
Thank you so much for offering to send me samples, but I do have WAY too much Lizbeth! Not all of it is like this - the size #40 is pretty nice. But, I have had quite a lot of trouble with the #20.
    Thanks again!

  5. I have had issues with this thread as well. Glad to see I am not crazy. I had bought my thread at JoAnn's Fabric Store. I have the same issue with it splitting not to mention the tying on in the middle of the ball where they needed to continue the thread. I have found this in several of the balls. The colors are wonderful and are dyed well but the thread structure is very frustrating. Glad to see from other comments that there was an issue because I had heard such praise about this thread! Only thing is the thread that is sold at JoAnn's says it it Barbara's on the package. So could this have been the left overs? Well like you I am going to give it another try and see. : )

  6. If you ever change your mind, let me know. It makes sense that your size 40 is fine; I'm pretty sure it was made after they got the problems with the size 20 sorted out. If you bought all of your size 20 at the same time from the same vendor, then it very well could be the bad stock that Handy Hands recalled. I'm sure anyone having problems with the thread probably acquired some of the bad thread.
