Design by Jan Stawasz
diameter 17 inches
It's already on its way to my daughter. I hope it is what she is expecting... I couldn't get rid of it fast enough! : 0
Well, in my regular fashion, I have to - yes - complain about the thread; I think it was yellow on small sections to begin with, as the piece was not fixed after I washed it - not throughout, and my hands were never dirty, or covered in something that peculiar shade!
It was white, #60 DMC Cordonnet. Also, it was not consistent throughout. I didn't like it much, though it never twisted up and only had one knot. I won't order it again.
Funnily enough, ad I was wrapping it up, the mailman knocked on my door and delivered this:
This is used but other than an address stamp on the inside it is in new, perfect condition! I am thrilled. It is an amazing book. The patterns are just gorgeous. As if I needed another tatting book:
Das ist eine wunderschöne Arbeit! Occhi Bücher kann man nie genug haben :) !
ReplyDeleteLieben Gruß Cornelia
That doily is absolutely awesome(as I knew it would be)!!!!!! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed, as Always by your tatting! But I also admire the picture of the inside of Mr G's ears. How did you do that?
ReplyDeleteA girl never has enough tatting books!
It's so big and beautiful! Congratulations on finishing that impressive doily!
ReplyDeleteBeautifully done! My copy arrived from Ben Fikkert today. I must finish the monster first, but I am very interested in several of the patterns.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Diane! I am really excited about Ben's patterns. I just ordered thread for the Corona Doily. : ))
DeleteThanks so much, Tatters!
ReplyDeleteYour doily is beautiful - even if you are sick of it! The shape looks so good, I always worry about the shape being wonky after I've put so much work into it. Ready to see what you do next :)
ReplyDeleteHey. Cindy! Hi! Thank you. : )
DeleteCongratulations! It's really beautiful and I'm sure your daughter will be thrilled!
ReplyDeleteWash your mouth out, you ALWAYS need tatting books! It does look like a very good copy - well done. The doily is beautiful, but I really wish we could find a thread that you like!
ReplyDeleteIt is a perfect copy - thanks to YOU!
DeleteYes, I am tired of my constant complaints about thread. Boring too!
It is so beautiful and big! Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteGlorious!!!!
ReplyDeleteWonderful, I didn't realized it was only a month. "Finito e rifinito"! Well, in the shelf I can see room for more!
ReplyDeleteNin, you enabler, you! : ))
DeleteSo wonderful!
ReplyDeleteFor information the DMC Cordonnet exists in two white colors: the "white" and the "B5200" (a light white). The "B5200" is difficult to find here...
Lilas, neither of these numbers were on the label. I have a feeling the balks I purchased were very old stock. Thanks for this info.
DeleteCongratulations on finishing it's a beautiful mat and I am sure she will love it.
ReplyDeleteOf course you need another book, one can never have enough tatting books.
Love to Mr G
Margaret
Gorgeous ! Stupendous !
ReplyDeleteSo glad the book arrived in time for us to get to see plenty more of your extraordinary tatting :-)
Oh this is Great and wow you are fast! and quick to the mail too :) I see the book is here and that is good, I am torn between starting that pattern and a different one from Ben in another book I got while waiting for this one, then I saw Renata's blog and she is starting one friday, and then of course the Monster. Oh what shall I do?
ReplyDeleteDecisions, decisions!!!
DeleteThe gentleman in the photo doing the quality control on your item before shipping appears to be doing an extremely thorough job! ;)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful work as always! Are ALL those books tatting books? ? ? WOW!
Some collect shuttles. My name is Fox, and I am a tatting-book-addict....
DeleteI just realized I forgot to comment on this post, and there's so much here to comment on!
ReplyDeleteOf course the doily looks gorgeous! So lovely and even! I also love that you finished it in a month. That really shows your single-minded determination. I'm getting close to finishing the smaller Stawasz doily that I've been working on... since last March.
You must be a magnet for flawed threads. I have never had a DMC thread that was anything less than perfect. Maybe you just got a bad lot. That does occasionally happen even with the best of manufacturers.
The collar on that book cover is a really interesting design. I think I would enjoy tatting that. Of course, I don't wear lace collars, or know anybody who does. But it does occur to me that the design could be extended around to a full circle, and attached to a fabric center for a unique doily. Maybe I'll have to get that book, because you know I need more tatting books too.
And your tatting shelf is so neat and tidy!
I live in a shoebox! Neatness is an absolute essential! Even MrG is fanatically tidy.
DeleteYes, I do seem to get all the lemon balls of thread, I’m afraid. Sometimes I think I am imagining things, or exaggerating; that is when the new knot shows up or the thread just snaps. I don’t get it...
I like that collar very much; even considered tatting it before I looked in the rest of the book as I thought it might be a good intro to the designs inside as I thought they might be a tad intimidating. They are indeed! It would be nice around a cloth as a large mat. I think.
You would LOVE the book. It is well worth the price of admission and in fact is not too expensive if you order it from Ben himself.
Thanks for the comments. : )
