I have wanted to try this Tina Frauberger pattern for a while and this seemed a perfect time to do so, since I started the Mystery Doily again and so have little to show.
The good news is that the new work is much improved, but I have not got to joining the round yet... we shall see.
In what seems another person’s life, I did a lot of knitting and crocheting. That was my job and my hobby; I taught, sold, stitched and designed. Now, I have absolutely no desire to be near any of it.
The knitting stuff is long gone - library, tools wool - everything. Same with the crochet tools, books and stash, EXCEPT for my beloved Profi hooks. They are rather expensive for a crochet hook and my absolute favourites, so I could not bear to part with them.
Lucky I kept them, for I will be needing them and I will tell you why in the next post.
In the meantime, here is a tiny sampling of my previous life, before I was soundly struck by the tatting cupid. : ))
Shame to have tossed it all out - you might want to go back to it one day! The Profi hooks are the ones with the gold tips, aren't they? - I have a set of those too, I must try to remember which box I packed them in when we moved 4 years ago....
ReplyDeleteYes indeed - gold tipped. Nice.
DeleteI did not toss them out. I donated them to various concerns around the city. Everything went to good use. Better used by someone loving the stuff than in a box in a cupboard. : ))
That's true - wish I were brave enough to follow your example, I still knit for the family - son in Canada - daughter in law is getting the Greyhaven Cowl for Christmas - new babies - I enjoy what I do, but no longer knit exclusively and with passion.
ReplyDeleteLovely motif! Interesting to read your story, because I was also very involved with knitting as a career, and didn't tat at all while I was spinning, dyeing and knitting. I gave a lot of needles, yarn etc to charities too when I closed my business, but I kept a se of needeles, one of each size, for myself and, as you know, still knit. I admire your single mindedness!
ReplyDeleteMaureen and Jane,
ReplyDeleteSigh... It is more obsession than singlemindedness. I am too black and white with very little grey, I'm afraid. If I am not all fired up about something, I can't do it well at all.
When the kids and grand kids were tiny, I enjoyed knitting for them, but never liked larger or adult sizes, even way back when. I am more of a small projects person. Maybe all the huge afghans I was commissioned to crochet did me in for the larger things.
Hi Fox
ReplyDeleteLovely motif and very pretty, I like the pattern and your colour way.
Nice to see some of your old work, I still knit but I never have been able crochet, somehow it just never worked for me.
Love to Gian
Margaret
I always enjoyed crocheting more than knitting, but like tatting found no useful application once the baby stuff was over.
DeleteLove the doily and one of my favorite combinations of colors too! I know what you mean about your knitting I too loved to sew I even have books on the "art of manipulating fabric" some times it's all I can do to make something to sew my tatting on to if I choose to wear it! Oh well just go with it what I say and let you know if you find something else! :)
ReplyDeleteI was lucky with the colours.... Was emptying shuttles. Last of the Olympus. : )
DeleteWhat a very beautiful motif!! :)
ReplyDeleteLots of beautiful work before tatting, and now lots of beautiful tatting!! :)
Thank you, Sue. What a lovely thing to say.
DeleteNice to see someone else smitten with Frauberger. Once you suss out the terminology they are a delight to tat.
ReplyDeleteLove her patterns. : ))
