I am wondering if I need to order another ball... Renata told me I would need only one, but I am only on Row 7 and the thread has diminished quickly. Anybody else using #20 Lizbeth for this pattern?
This is very interesting I too was wondering about this the thread I have is not that great to tat with cause it doesn't slide well and it looks like a larger size ball but I worry. π¦it is that omega size 50 and I not sure if they make the color any more π¦
Renata may be using a different brand of thread. Some threads come in larger/smaller balls than Lizbeth does. She may have needed only 1 ball, but it is entirely possible that you may need 2 to tat the same thing. Can't remember which thread she usually uses. If you can remember what she uses, try looking it up and see how many grams in a ball of her thread. I run into that problem when tatting from old thread company patterns - 'x' number of balls of ....some extinct thread....equals how many balls of what's available today? ;-) StephanieW
I'm also using Lizbeth 20 and I'm up to the same row as you and I was also wondering if I'd have enough thread in one ball. Particularly with the amount of tatting to be done in Round 9.
I am not tatting this doily. But going by two of hers which I worked in size 20 (2014, 2015), you will need just under 3 balls. The outer rounds become voracious ;-)
What she does say is how big her ball is or was, I am still tatting her mat from 2012/13 yes I picked it up again last week, and I am on the last but one row and just started the second ball, so glad I brought another one when I was tatting it. I call it a UFP Vernon calls it a work in progress. I think you better get another one even if you don't use it all, it will come in useful for something else. Love to Mr G
what colour is it? - one of the Mochas? Lots of European tatters have access to, and use Aida thread. It is beautiful to work with and it comes in very large balls.
Does she specifically state that she used Lizbeth? I know the stated size on Jan Stawasz's doilies is way off. It seems whatever thread he was using there (Poland too) isn't equivalent to the North American one.
Hello fox Very pretty ! You made me want to make this model! I started it in thread DMC N ° 80 because I know that the models of Renulek are very large and I dare not invade the house with all my placemats, so I put the little ones in an album ;-) Have a nice day ancolie
I am using size 20, but I'm working off a cone, so I'm not much help. Your doily sure looks pretty!

ReplyDeleteMaybe it wasn't a full ball, did you tat something else in that color? Where do you order your thread from?
ReplyDeleteIt was a reputable vendor and the ball is a completely normal #20 Lizbeth and I haven't used it for anything else!π³
DeleteSorry wasn't trying to blame the vendor, just curious as to where you order the thread from.
DeleteOh! I didn't think you were blaming! I use Stitch Central - in Ontario. Their postage is a bit less expensive than the US outlets. :)

Thanks, Stephanie, I thought about how she might have used another thread... I'm going to order one more so I can stop fretting!

ReplyDeleteThanks, Hilary! It's a fun one, isn't it? I'm ordering another just to be sure. I luckily like the colour. π

ReplyDeleteWow! Well, I am not ordering a third ball, so I will finish what I can.. Thanks very much for the heads-up!

ReplyDeleteI do think she uses Aida --- I didn't ask if it was Lizbeth. I should have!
DeleteIt looks fabulous!!! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Tatters. πI have ordered another ball!
