Land of Laces Question

I am frustrated. Having tried many times to tat the beautiful centre to the pattern provided so generously by Land of Laces, I can understand neither the stitch count nor the order of the elements.

This is the centre I am talking about:

Anyone willing to coach this disturbed dyslexic?

  1. I have been interested in tatting this, but haven't yet. It looks like you would start with that ring on the top left 6p2p6 then chain 3p3p8, then Ring 6p2p6 then chain 6p6, then Ring 6p2p6 and another Ring 6p2p6 then chain 6p6, then a Ring 6p6p7, then chain 6, then Clover 6p2p3, then 3p10p3, 3p2p6 (that is the left section working from top to the point in the center). I hope that helps, I am going to copy this for myself for when I get to try it. :)

  2. Well, I've already made a mistake by making too many picots in a ring, but here's what I came up with...

Start with the ring at the top left: 6 - 2 - 6, reverse work.
    Chain: 3 - 3 - 8, reverse work.
Ring: 6 + (join to last picot of previous ring) 2 - 6, reverse work.
    Chain: 6 - 6, reverse work.
Ring: 6 + (join to last picot of previous ring) 2 - 6, do not reverse work.
    Ring: 6 - 2 - 6, reverse work.
    Chain: 6 - 6, reverse work.
Ring: 6 + (join to last picot of previous ring) 6 - 7, reverse work.
    Chain 6, reverse work.
    Ring: 6 - 2 - 3.
    Ring: 3 - 10 - 3.
    Ring: 3 - 2 - 6, reverse work.
    Chain 6, reverse work.
    Ring: 7 - 6 - 6, reverse work.
Chain: 6 + (join to picot on opposite chain) 6, reverse work.
Ring: 6 + (join to last picot of previous ring) 2 - 6.
    Ring: 6 - 2 -6, reverse work.
Chain: 6 + (join to picot on opposite chain) 6, reverse work.

From this point you are starting the pattern repeat over from the first ring... I think!

I'll try it tonight and see how I do with it. Good luck!

    1. I was wrong... I stopped too soon. Follow the blue line all the way to the tip of the arrow, then the pattern repeats. Nice little pattern!

  3. I'm sure that with a pencil you can draw it again, starting from the ring 6-2-6 in the upper left. Then, as you did with other patterns, with a different colour draw the chain 3-3-8, and so on. Lovely pattern, it can't be worse than the mystery doily...

  4. Going by her markings, start at top left ring , then chains and rings down to centre , then back up on right side, down to Centre, and so on. The lines demarcate one half repeat (up or down respectively), each half forming one half of the heart.

RW after each element, as far as I can tell.
    R 6-2-6
    C 3-3-8
    R 6+2-6
    C 6-6
    R 6 +2-6
    R 6-2-6
    C 6-6
    R 6+6-7
    C 6
    Trefoil in center : R 6-2-3 ; R 3+10-3 ; R 3+2-6
Moving back up .... in next comment so that I don't lose all this typing ..

  5. I think you start at the bottom tip of heart and looks like that number 10 is wrong and is really an 8 and then 3, then climbing up to center and then to side of heart where you jump over to next heart and go to top and then down to clover tip and up like at the start. this will finish one heart and then on from there go all way round and end with the other half at beginning.

  6. C 6
R 7-6-6 (( Pl check my previous comment - the corresponding ring on left should be 6+6-7 , in case I made a mistake))
C 6+6 (to corresponding Ch on left)
R 6+2-6 [[ with this join, you can see 4 rings joined tog]]
    R 6-2-6
    C 6+6
    R 6+2-6
C 8-3-3 we are now making the top curve in 2nd triangular segment. ( Pl refer back to the 1st C - did I write 3-3-8 ? I'm on my tab, at 4-30 in morning ... and can't see my comment ;-P)
    R 6+2-6
    C 10-4
R 6+2+6 (join to adjacent, then to previous) DNRW
    R 6+5-3
    C 4
    R 3+5-6 DNRW
    R 6-2-6
    C 4+10.
    Repeat from 1st ring ....

Note : DNRW for trefoil (duh) & the earlier set of 2 consecutive rings)

    Hope this helps ?

I have had this on my to-tat list ever since she posted :-)

    1. These are perfect and I could follow with the diagram and add what was not there. Thank you so much, Muskaan. This help is invaluable! I think I can see it now! : )) Fox

  7. Wow! Thank you so much, Tatters! I have a lot to work with here.

Ninetta, the colour drawing was too confusing and gave me headaches. Threw it away!

I'll try the suggestions...seems that little 4 ds chain was a problem, as the two sides to each whole are different. I could not be beyond that stumbling block.

Thanks again. Back to the drawing board. : )

  8. Seems like everyone has already given you great advice. I had problems with this too until I saw that the pattern was just repeating itself. I am at the row where you attach the banner of hearts to the rest of the mat. I've put it aside to tackle other WIP's. I know you'll master this in no time.

  9. I have tatted several of the hearts actually made them into mini bookmarks, I was going to make this doily, all I can say is the hearts start at the right hand side top and work done to the bottom and back up the middle around the left hand side down to the bottom, up to the starting point. I hope that makes sense to you.
I can see there has been lots of answers so I hope they are all helpful

  10. Fox, thank you for reminding me about this pattern. I had planned to start on this after the Spring2015 doily but forgot about it.
I see you have received many responses to your call for help. I hope you will be able to proceed with this.

  12. It is a bit of a nightmare in places. I ended up writing all the numbers on an enlarged diagram.

The outer row is the one you need to watch. It is huge and done separately to the main body and attached last.
Kinda gets all wibbly wobbly......don't blink. xxxx
