Today

You can see where I am going with the colours now.

I tried the connecting rings and chains using dark brown and a variegated purpley thread, but it looked very wrong. So I settled on the light brown followed by motifs in white...the new addition.

Armenian Lace, you ask? Still plugging along. I had to retrieve it from the depths if my cupboard. I can't seem to just walk away.

Thanks, Etta, for your very encouraging email. You gave me a real boost! : )

  1. I really must try that doily when I finish the one I'm working on! Keep going with that Armenian needle lace. I know you will have some beautiful lace when you are finished!

  3. love your tatting and the tiny round motifs you added. And you do a great job with spacing the same distance on the thread on the Armenian Lace are you using the picot gauges?

    1. Gauges? Good grief, no! It is frustrating enough without trying to hold a gauge as well. Thanks. I think the picot spacing experience in tatting is now very helpful in determining the spacing in AL. It is getting a little easier every day... muscle memory and all that.

  4. Yes, keep it simple. Three colors is elegant; more than that can start to look like too much. Not a hard and fast rule, but a good starting guideline.

I'm so glad you're continuing with the Armenian lace. Of course it will be frustrating. Remember learning to tat, or knit, or crochet? But you mastered all these arts, and you'll get the AL too.

    1. Actually, Miranda, there are 4 colours already! The last one, in the motifs, is white, not cream, which was used earlier. I know that rule and am shamelessly breaking it in this design. There will be one more shade added after the white... I think! It might work, or maybe not. : )

  5. I like the colors you're using in your doily! Has a "steampunk" look - even the motifs remind me of gears, in a way.

  7. Your JS mat is looking great. Glad you are working on the AL again. Bet it was nice to have a bit of a break from it thought. It's looking good too.
