Slow Spring and Sparkles

Spring, the season, seems nowhere nearby in Toronto, and the Spring Doily is making progress at a snail’s pace. That last fact is a good thing.

Here it is today in the new threads using
Perfect Quilter for the green this time...
and BEADS!

I was cautious to add beads that blend in so well that you can hardly see them, but they catch the light a bit and sparkle modestly. : )

The last row is the second go-around.

Sticking to my new promise to tat with more attention, I had to cut off the first attempt at the 8th row, as the picots were the old sloppy large ones...

In the first version of Spring Doily, I used DMC green in the 8th row, which I had to discontinue as I am using it to tat the Lucky Clover and was afraid I would run out if I used it for both.

I have not touched that green piece since beginning the latest Spring Doily.

The switch to Perfect Quilter, I must say, I quite like!

  1. Hi Fox

It's looking lovely so far, I am sure when it's finished you will be pleased with the mat.
I am sure spring can't be far away for you.

  3. Hope you save those cut of pieces it may come in handy when you make a shabby chic journal cover :) your work is always beautiful to see, and you use such fine thread!

  4. I have to admit, I didn't even see the beads at first. They are a very nice, subtle touch.

  5. You don't make things easy for yourself! But the result is great!

    1. Thanks Tally! It is YOUR green DMC that I am saving for the Lucky Clover! I love that thread! And I like the way it is progressing, so I didn’t want to waste it. The PQ works just as well, thank goodness, on the Spring Doily.
      Fox : ))

  7. It looks beautiful! I'm learning to snip, except when using my precious hand-dyed threads! ;-)

  8. For goodness' sake! I like Sharren's editorial about your perfectionism on the 25 motif blog. Heh heh. But I have done the same on occasion--has to satisfy your most important critic. :)

I am tempted to try the perfect quilter. I got a new ball of Lizbeth WITH NO NUBS SO FAR, but I think it is older as I got it locally and it has a different shape to the cardboard core than the newer ones. It is so much smoother to work with and more even results.

    1. I think you would like Perfect Quilter, Grace. It is very consistent and a bit thicker than Lizbeth #80. I like it a lot, but find most of the colours not too apoealing.

  9. It's terrible, but, I do sometimes the same thing! Can’t wait to see the continuation...

  10. Looks wonderful Fox. Glad you are liking the PQ. I am doing mine in it. Unfortunately the black is a bit slubby but the colors are usually nice and smooth.
You are doing a great job on this one.

  11. Sad about your thread, and I hope you can find a brand that you like - but even so, the doily is lovely.

  12. Your doily is looking more and more beautiful! I love the colours, and I always think adding a little sparkle with beads is great. I have never tried Lizbeth thread or Perfect Quilter, so I think I might try them out some time soon.

  13. I finally got the book and downloaded it onto my iPad . I found it with an app that searches for books and the best part is I did not have to pay for it. I haven't started the Lucky Clover yet but I hope when I do it starts out as nice as yours. Your tatting is impeccable .
