Immersed in "Iris"

...and getting bored already!  And I am only one quarter through it. It is a lovely pattern and not difficult to tat.  In fact it is lovely to tat. but this is it for hankies for a while.

I want to get the last few designs I have done written up...**cough, cough** .  That might take a little time.  Perhaps I should lug the laptop to the coffee shop and have a go at it somewhere new.

My niece lives in another province, and though we are not close at all and do not speak from one year to the next, I know she is the only one in the entire family  who will truly appreciate my tatting.  I mean really love it.

She is the only one of all my relatives that appreciated my knitting.  Also, she loved every pair of socks I made for her.  Everyone else said wool itched.  She was the only one I could make anything for! And here I am again, her least favourite and only aunt, about to send her a beautiful handmade gift.  Life is strange.

  1. Sounds like you and your niece might have a lot in common, if you had a chance to get together.

The "Iris" pattern does look like fun to tat, but I don't know how you can do all these edgings without going nuts.

  2. Miranda,
Nuts? I think that might be a mute point... : ))

My niece and I have very little in common, which is strange, as temperamentally we are somewhat alike. Thanks for the comment!

  3. That edging is coming along beautifully!!! :)
I think the constant repetition is what gets to you as you do larger or longer type projects, but I still like to do them anyway.
I have also worked on setting achievement goals a little section of the longer or larger project to do at a time, and a side project(or a few) to break up the repetition a bit.

  4. So pretty! You are to be commended and congratulated for your stick-to-it-tiveness.

You have certainly earned a break from handkerchief edgings. (Though your readers will lament.)

Another outstanding job with this lovely, lovely lace.

  5. Don't give up on the edging Fox! It's looking so pretty in pink. I'm just finishing one in size 80 and I seem to have been at it forever! Your niece will treasure such a lovely hanky with the thought of all the work that went into it. I'm sending your some <<<>>>>!

  6. You are lucky to have someone in the family who appreciates things you make!! I don't, so that is why I take part in the tatting exchanges with the Fringe.

  7. Very pretty. The pleasure we get from making pretty things is great, but the pleasure diminishes for me on hanky edgings, too. Karen in OR

  8. P.S. Forgot to say: love your cat's eyes peeping from above your computer in your new title box!

  9. I do like that edging, but I think I'd better finish the three I'm working on before starting a new one! I know my mom loves my tatting, and my sister has frames a few pieces, so I'm pretty sure she's in. Each of my daughters, granddaughters, and my grandson have some of my tatting... I wonder if they secretly hate it and are just humoring me? Oh, well! I'm happy, and I guess that's all that matters.

If your niece tires of your efforts, I'm sure there are plenty of takers in Tat-land!

  12. Oh no, not the coffee shop! Coffee shops are Bad For Your Health - remember?
Your tatting speaks to your niece in language deeper than words - you've found your point of contact.
