This is a Norma Benporath pattern, (find over at Craftree) and was fun, easy and new to me, tatted directly onto a round doily centre.
I enjoyed this project so much that I have ordered Girly Girl, #80, and another round doily to tat the same thing for Little Boss this time, and this one will go to The Boss, for her tenth birthday, with a Gift Certificate for books wrapped in it. I thought that would be a great gift for an avid young reader.
The thread for the Renukek doily has not arrived... I have reconsidered how I will finish this project and decided I will start over when the thread finally lands in my mailbox. I am going to tat it in the skinny very skinny threads, using both blues.
The longer the unfinished piece sits here, I keep picking it up and closely scrutinizing it, realizing that I do not like the heavier weight; to me it feels coarse and bulky. It is also already a good size; those Renulek pieces grow fast, so I will keep mine smaller, tatted with #80.
I removed the last unfinished row and will leave the piece completed at about 8":
Both are very pretty!
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love those doilies! I think if I ever tat the JS Masterpiece again, I will also use a finer thread. The biggest problem is how to display those magnificent pieces. 8" seems the perfect size to me!
ReplyDeleteThe Norma Benporath edging is beautiful, as is the color. Good idea to make a second one as a gift.
ReplyDeleteIt's a wonderful idea for a birthday present! - but I have been right through the Benporath patterns on Craftree and cannot see yours - which one is it? It's fun to see the old patterns being tatted in Lizbeth, it shows how timeless tatting is.
ReplyDeleteI think it is listed in the Tat-Along group section...
DeleteAhh - got it! - thanks for that, I just didn't recognise it from the very blurry photograph in the Benporath section! Might try it myself one day.
DeleteMaureen, that photo initially put me off, but the posted redone instructions plus the photos of the piece tatted by Eliz solved any problems. It's very easy to do.
DeleteI really love the edging on cloth, wonderful! Yes, it seems to me a good idea to do those very big doilies in fine thread. But your blue one looks complete as it is, so that's a bonus.
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful piece of work and lovely pattern well done
ReplyDeleteAnother mat hits the rocks with the thread, oh dear Fox you are not having any luck with larger items
Love to Mr G
Margaret
Both pieces are stunning!!!!! :)
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful !!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Everyone!
ReplyDeleteIt looks marvelous, Fox! How could The Boss not love one in pink and a gift certificate to boot? What you do in tiny thread always looks so elegant.
ReplyDeleteYour Benporath Cake Doyley turned out great. Congratulations!
