Blue Omen

Even though I love it and am more than half way around the row, I get nervous every so often thinking I may have made an impetuous mistake. The thing is now 231/2" across. Two feet! So, to think I have done something hideous at this point is a bit unnerving.

I could not go on with the red, which was starting to depress me, and the large piece was looking very traditional and boring, so off I went to the store to try green and pink and every colour in between.

After purchasing a ball of green and consulting with the crochet thread lady, I went home and looked at it for two days before deciding I wanted to exchange it for blue - this after perusing interior design sites and liking what I saw in red, beige or brown and cornflower blue. Then I dreamt about the doily with blue. A sign!

Just a hint for now...

  1. That's so pretty. Do you have a spot for it when it's done?

  3. That looks very nice. You have picked a very good color. You have a good eye for color, and have shown it many times.
That is going to be so gorgeous when you are finished, in fact it is now.

  4. Wow! And you're now even dreaming about the doily! No wonder, though! It's become a part of your life! You've been through a lot together! It should have an honored place in your new place!

Even with the photos it's difficult to imagine how large this really is!

I think you have a winner here with the blue accent! Looks great on the screen!

  5. Well, I thought the red and beige looked just fine, but I can certainly see how you would be getting bored with them. I LOVE the blue! It goes very nicely with both of the other colors, and it really "pops"! Great choice!

  8. I like it! Makes me think of wildflowers at the edge of a field of waving wheat. I'm from America's heartland and I'm ready for spring...

  10. You guys!

I feel so much better. I was a bit timid about showing y'all the new bit, a bit worried that it would be a disappointment out there in Tat- Land.

But, wow! Thank you SO much for the wonderful and encouraging comments. They gave me so much pleasure when I checked the blog...with much trepidation. I feel up to trudging on to the final three rows.

    1. Only three rows left! That doesn't sound so daunting, does it?

    2. Hi Miranda,
Are you kidding? This last row has taken me three nights of HOURS of tatting so far! Each row takes forever when the thing is this big!

    3. Oh yes, I realize that. I was just trying to make it sound a little easier. After all, only three rows left out of, what, eighteen? I know they're huge rows, but try not to think about that, and just think about the fact that you're down to three!

By the time this beast is done, it may be more of a tablecloth than a doily. Just think of that, you've only been tatting for a few years, and you've already made your first tablecloth!

    4. Miranda, that is positively brilliant! You are right! The only place this beast can be laid out fully is on my little round table - which it almost completely covers! Thank you for this comment. I have a HUGE smile on my face!

  12. As you know, blue is my favorite color. However, I'm not sure if I've ever dreamed in color. Blue seems to be the perfect choice to offset the red and beige. This piece might deserve to be in a museum when it's finished!
