Love this pattern, which I saw originally on Vinnie's and then again Liyarra's site. I could not figure out how to do this in one pass, as Vinnie intends. Tried a few times and ended up there, at the point, not knowing what to do next.
So, I turned the tatting upside down and made a picot on the bottom to later join the not-yet-made-ring, and then up righted the tatting to continue. You see the result.
Perhaps, I thought, a dimpled ring would have worked, but the joining picot would then be in the wrong place, for it would be upside down. This was my solution. I am not sure yet if it will work as I have not got to that place in the pattern.
Am I missing something elementary here? Overlooked the obvious? If you can see the problem, do tell! Otherwise, I may have created a lovely new move! I doubt it, but it is a nice thought!

Karey Solomon's HDT #30
On the bright side, I did manage to tat these little motifs on the weekend.

Slowly. I seem to be at a bit of a tatting impasse - everything is suddenly so difficult! I hope this bumpiness passes quickly or I WILL have to submit to the dark side!
Please see my blog for corrections and some further corrections.
ReplyDeleteThe picot at the ch8-8 is supposed to be a join.
Sorry for all the trouble!
Luv,
Vinnie
See, you did an inverted picot and didn't even know it! We'll go with "genius".
ReplyDelete:-)))
It seems to me that the quickest and least painful way out of such a situation is to toss in a downward facing picot, as you did, but by means of a dimple (2a-2b). But that is apparently not what Vinnie intended.
ReplyDeleteDon't panic, your capability in the medium has overtaken your understanding. Your brain simply needs processing time to catch up. Chill!
I had the same problem, but Vinnie set me right. Love the motifs.
ReplyDeleteThe thread you're using is very delicate in colour. I have to admit I had a crack at this pattern and gave up quite quickly when I couldn't figure out what to do.
ReplyDeleteGenius. Definitely. I saw this post last night and have been pondering it since, because it's beyond me. Now reading the comments, I see it's called an inverted picot, have googled it, know it is advanced, but still beyond me... and I suspect will remain so for QUITE some time!!! I can already tell though, that my pea-brain isn't going to let this go and I will be cruising the internet trying to learn more. I love how you always get me thinking, Fox!

Thanks for the comments, Everyone!
ReplyDeleteI am still frustrated by this pattern and took a break to tat Mary Konior's heart, which gave me heartache as well! But, IT is completed, as you can see in the next post.
Now, I will try and tackle Vinnies' again ... Fox : )
Not sure if this helps...but I would have tatted over a paperclip, which can be removed when you come to do the join, no?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the positive comments, btw, :), ca m'a fait plaisir.
