Tatting in PieceWork
If you haven't seen it yet (subscribers already have received their copies), the November/December issue of PieceWork magazine devotes its "Trimmings" section to tatted holiday ornaments.
This issue focuses on the Crochet-Lace Challenge winners and contributors, but there is an article on "Pointed Lace in Crochet Tatting" from Weldon's Practical Needlework, Volume 10 and Link Pattern Lace from Weldon's Volume 12.

I do not get any kickbacks or compensation in any way from this magazine. Pure and simple, I am delighted that they have been including more tatting in recent months and want to spread the word.

If you go out to pick up an issue of PieceWork just for the tatting, please let Editor-in-Chief Jeane Hutchins know! She really does value feedback and we're seeing more tatting in this magazine primarily because tatters have asked for it.

I was intrigued, so I followed that advice and got in touch with  Jeanne - and look what happened!  Thanks Is'Dihara!
I have actually posted a small sample of this piece before.  Here is the completed work submitted:

Now, the present...
Taking  Tatskool's advice, taking breaks from the bonnet,  I have started a new and FUN motif:

The pattern is by Myra Piper; the green HDT is Krystle's; the variegated HDT is Karey's. This is going to be very pretty IF I have enough of both threads to finish!

Also, I am still struggling with the Celtic Tatting thing.  Ohhh, I find it nearly impossible and I cannot stop trying to "get" this pattern.

 Next post:  THE BONNET!

  1. Congrats on the Piecework piece! This was on my agenda - you know I love reworking vintage tatting, but I simply could not get to it and I saw recently that the deadline was past. I'm so glad YOU got in there though! Yay!

  2. I saw the tatting immediately when I opened my issue of Piecework, but I didn't put 2 and 2 together to come up with Fox until I read IsDihara's post! Congrats! It's a lovely piece of tatting!

  3. You are such a dedicated tatter to tackle all that you do. That celtic tatting looks difficult - and I wouldn't even attempt a bonnet yet!

Congrats on the PIecework publication. I haven't really explored that magazine yet, but I think it's about time I did.

  4. Yes, congratulations Fox! The edging/insertion is pretty. I wonder if that magazine is available somewhere here. That motif you are currently working on is going to look great when you are done. Don't give up on the Celtic tatting. Once you get the hang of it, you may become addicted to it. What size of thread are you using for the motif? When you're first starting out with Celtic tatting, using a larger thread (size 10ish) is a really good idea.

  5. Wow Fox! That is even cooler than I realized - I saw the photo credits were for someone else and didn't think about the tatting being yours. Very pretty piece! And congratulations again on being published and in circulation!

Hope your thread supply holds for the current project - love them colors!

    :) Ann

  6. Wow!!
    Congratulations Fox.
    That's a very pretty edging.

  7. Congrats. I'm particularly fond of the insertion.

  8. A great promo for tatting, well done, lovely work too.

  9. Just dropped in to celebrate your publication appearance. hugs, BJ

  10. Thank you Everyone for your kind comments about Piecework. I am really happy about this! Can't quite believe that it is mine!
    : ))

Jeff, Thanks for your support about the Celtic tatting. I have some size #10, and you are so correct - it is much easier. I am determined to get it down as I love the look of some of the Celtic patterns. This has been on my mind for a while, but there were other more pressing tatting projects. I now have time to concentrate. Yayyy!
    Fox : )

  11. It is such a thrill to see your work in Piecework magazine, Fox! And I blush to think my instigating ways were in some small way responsible.

Actually, you made MY dream come true! It was my dream to see more tatting in Piecework magazine. Thank you for making that dream a reality.

  12. Congratulations darling!, You totally rocked this pattern, fully deserved credit!!! I am trying to get this magazine for myself to brag about you in NYC :))
