Tatting Triathlon

Here we are: last row, about a quarter completed:

Before the final measure, this piece measures about 23". Actually, considering the size of the thread, I had imagined it would have been larger.

The beads, which were bought a few summers ago at a garage sale, are quite large. I had forgotten about them and at the last minute realized that they would be just perfect in the last repeats.

Because of their size, they cannot be added in the normal, strung fashion, for then the rings would be the wrong size, thus distorting the scale of the last row. So, I have been adding them, one by one, as I go along.

The shuttles are most wonderful - so smooth and they hold so much thread. They really feel great in the hand; however, because mine are on the small side, these beauties will be reserved for larger pieces like this one, as their constant use is tiring and they often leap randomly out of my grasp!I do miss my LaCossettes!

Usually I use the slip/slide method, but because of the size  of the shuttles, I have to tat like Marilee! If you have eve seen a video of her tatting, you will know what I mean. Such fun!

And last, but certainly not least, I received a wonderful gift shuttle, commemorating The Queen's 90th birthdqy. I love the Queen! What a treat. Thank you so much, Margaret!

  3. Great us of beads. Do you find it hard to change your tatting style? I would keep reverting back to my slip slide method. Plus I thought it was only me who had shuttles that jumped.

    1. Bernice, I have no choice, really; the shuttles are so large that I have to push them through o the 2nd ds from underneath...Not bad to get used to, however.

I like your idea of the beads and will give a bit of weight to the edge.
I am so glad you like your shuttle for your collection.

    1. Thanks, Mica! I add the bead after tatting the inside ring (right side), using that thread from the right side shuttle; then turn the work and tat the outside ring with the other shuttle. Then I carry on normally (still on the wrong side) with the chain...This method keeps the rings the right size, or the one with the bead added would be a lot larger.
