That was certainly the question several times during this round that I am posting, unpressed and unblocked, straight off my shuttles just a few moments ago. I am excited to show it to you, but a little disappointed in how my high expectations have not been met.
I still love the thread and the design, but the promises to myself about maintaining a high degree of excellent tatting have been dashed upon the sharp blades of my ever-ready scissors. DRAMA!
Several times, I debated whether to cut out an element missing a picot, or once when I had mistakingly cut through a picot. No one would notice - right?
So, I repaired those bad bits, took great pains to fix them, but persisted in fanatically finding them, again and again, going back to re-examine them, wondering...
Yes, I cut them all out and re-did each and every one! I am glad I did.
It is very difficult, for me anyway, to keep the tension consistent working with so many independent motifs and then joining them to ones I might have tatted days ago. However, all in all I am still pretty excited about this Ben Fikkert beauty. : )
Yikes - and there I see two that will have to be re-done! I just saw the errors in the photo. DRATS.

This is breathtaking I love it! I know what you mean about tension as you go, so days I make big loop ti loops and others not so big. But I guess that is what make it handmade, that's what my daughter tells me any way :) And I so know what you mean about posting and then seeing tatting better and then saying I see a mistake :) Except I don't see any with you work it is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteLookin' good! I understand the need to fix the mistakes. I also know that some of those mistakes don't show up until photographed! Even tension is a loft goal. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteLovely, simply lovely!

It's a beautiful design, your tatting is beautiful, you'd rather keep scissors in another room! consistent tension it's difficult for everybody I think... I just wonder if you really tatted separately each central ring in motifs, as it seems. Lovely colour, it's beautiful with white. Did I say beautiful already? Sorry, I should learn more adjectives.
ReplyDeleteHi Nin. Yes, they are all tatted separately. : )
DeleteOh, you do already have quite an arsenal of adjectives! :))
DeleteLooks splendid! Yes, if 'mistakes' are going to bother you, best to redo them.
ReplyDeleteWell all your work has paid off, it's stunning. It's easy to say no one would notice but if you do, that's enough. I have two motifs in my quatrain that are wrong and my eye is drawn to them every morning!sigh.
ReplyDeleteIt's so very beautiful!!!! :) Looks like a treasure to me!!! :)
ReplyDeleteI think it's beautiful too! I love the white with the variegated thread - it looks so delicate.
ReplyDeleteHow is Himself?

Wonderful, S! Siamese are terrific company. Sleeps close and talks a lot! Interesting breed. Fantastic rescue - for us both. : )
DeleteWell I think it looks fabulous, and I like the way the white frames the colored part. It is going to be gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteIt's very pretty but looks so different with the individual motifs stitched on than when they were just set beside the center. Too bad about all the cutting but, even if other people don't see the mistake just knowing they are there can make a person irritated. :-o But it will be marvelous when you are done!
ReplyDeleteLooks beautiful to me!
ReplyDeleteThis looks beautiful, I love your colouring and the pattern, well done, I don't why you are so hard on yourself, ok if there's a tiny mistake only you know it's there, I don't suppose anyone will notice.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good work
Love to Mr G

Thanks, Tatters. It is so comforting to know others know exactly how I feel about the scissors!
ReplyDeleteFox : ))
I SO understand how you feel about those errors. I HATE it when I know it - even if no one else would ever notice. Your doily is beautiful - I'm loving the color :)
ReplyDeleteI'm speechless. This is lovely - beautiful colors. Can't imagine that anyone could find mistakes!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Grace and really like the way the white frames the colour. Having just taken the scissors to my own work last night… I know how you feel! :-)
ReplyDeleteLook forward to seeing what comes next.
Doily looks beautiful! Colors are so inspired - I think about some doily with multicolored parts :-)
