The Penultimate Round

I wasn't going to post about the Monster again till it was done, but I LOVE the word penultimate, and really, when do I get the chance to take it to lunch?  : )

So, here I am; actually several inches beyond this point. I am hoping I might have this completed by the holidays. Ideally, would like to give it to my daughter-in-law before the new year.

  1. I looks lovely, Fox. very symmetrical, nice negative spaces. I love it! This is real lace!
This reminds me of the day when you were tatting Renulek's honey napkin,.. the chequered flag is in sight, turtle!! You are a role model in perseverance!

  2. Only slightly better than "antepenultimate".

Want to adopt my husband? I would love that doily.

  3. Looks good.... But, did you purposefully omit the join in the chains below each ring cluster? I'm wondering if it is to allow the chains to spread apart to fit? I'm a row behind you and am wondering if I will need to revise the stitch counts....

    1. Marla, that is the SECOND mistake that I didn't see! I just cut the whole row off because I started in the wrong place! I had about 21/2 elements done.....Grrrr Have to order more thread!

  5. Wow! That is a lot of double stitches!

And where's Mr. G? If I were to lay a piece of tatting out on the floor for a photo shoot, Squijum would be all over it!

  6. This is so beautiful, Fox. Truly. When this popped up in my reader I was struck by how gorgeous it is and a bit in awe of what you can do with a bit of thread! Just plain ol' linear, flexible thread that gets transformed into something sublime . . .

    1. I know! I think about that a lot - just a length of thread! Amazing isn’t it. I never felt that way about knitting or crochet, but tatting to me is a whole different realm entirely!!

  7. I got the pattern yesterday from Poland, one day I might get time to tat it.
Your mat is a beautiful heirloom to come, I am sure she will treasure it for many years and generations to come.
    Love to Mr .G

  11. Another show winning piece. It lays perfectly flat and no need to block. Is that your floor?

    1. It does lie flat, particularly since I cut off this round! Marla pointed out a fatal flaw and I seem to have begun in the wrong place! Yes, it is on the floor. : )
