One Down

This measures 7". I left off the last row for the sake of masculinity. To me, it appears mildly heraldic, but perhaps that is just a bit of wishful thinking.

this time using two differently coloured beads:

For The Boys

I started the green one for the one who loves green... Shrek's to blame for that.

Also, I am not tatting the final round of the pattern as I think the motif is more masculine when completed on the round as seen on the blue below.

Three More Rows To Go

The pattern I have is incomplete; I must make assumptions.
How I dislike doing that!

Snip!

I couldn't figure out why the motif was not working
 - too much frilling; it was way too tight...

Now look at that centre, with only six repeats. There is the problem. I didn't see that the pattern called for eight central repeats. Strange, but true. I must have been engrossed in watching the news; Trump trumped Tatting!

So, I cut out all the beads and began again:

Better.

Skill Testing

Because I spent six months tatting the large Renulek piece, I was worried that I might have forgotten everything other than rings and chains!  So, I grabbed this book and started to tat this:

Using the thread from the last star I tatted and trying to empty the
shuttle I realized I was was going to run out way too soon.

Adapting the pattern, I added split rings and came up with this:

It is not pretty, but addressed my doubts; I can still tat!

Here is the beginnings of a mat I am tatting for one of my grandsons:

Finca is Ferociously Floppy

... so imagine how happy I am, with thanks to Frivole, to have tatted her Crystal Star, using a lovely #20 light lilac Lizbeth and pale purple crystals that she sent to me to tat her design. I have only #80 in my stash. (Thanks to Diane, who also came to the rescue!)

The thread colour does not show up on the screen.
It is such a beautiful light lilac.

I had trouble with the long picot... I am not sure if  measured it correctly, but I did use the cardboard that we included with the pattern. Anyone else have this issue? I did manage to  tat over the excess, but I want to tat this again and wonder how to avoid the excess.

Imagine tatting a design in a day!
What an intriguing idea!

Finally!

The challenge has been met!
Thank you Renata!

SO happy it is done.

😀

26"
1/2 container of big beads
nearly full container of the small lilac ones
I still have a bit of thread left!

Moving on...

Only Five More!

Starbucks cup to show scale. It is damp, so colours are not true. It is much lighter - not so yellow.

I am very excited!

Tatting Triathlon

Here we are: last row, about a quarter completed:

Before the final measure, this piece measures about 23". Actually, considering the size of the thread, I had imagined it would have been larger.

The beads, which were bought a few summers ago at a garage sale, are quite large. I had forgotten about them and at the last minute realized that they would be just perfect in the last repeats.

Because of their size, they cannot be added in the normal, strung fashion, for then the rings would be the wrong size, thus distorting the scale of the last row. So, I have been adding them, one by one, as I go along.

The shuttles are most wonderful - so smooth and they hold so much thread. They really feel great in the hand; however, because mine are on the small side, these beauties will be reserved for larger pieces like this one, as their constant use is tiring and they often leap randomly out of my grasp!I do miss my LaCossettes!

Usually I use the slip/slide method, but because of the size  of the shuttles, I have to tat like Marilee! If you have eve seen a video of her tatting, you will know what I mean. Such fun!

And last, but certainly not least, I received a wonderful gift shuttle, commemorating The Queen's 90th birthdqy. I love the Queen! What a treat. Thank you so much, Margaret!
