A New Trick - The Necklace

Thought I'd try my hand at this....  It is tedious and I had to figure out how to get the big beads on;   they are too bulky to put on a shuttle.

I tat a LARGE picot at the end of the split ring, and after I close it, attach the bead, ending with a ds on top.  Then the next split ring.  There has to be one more stitch on the first half of the split ring because of the added picot.

This might be pretty!  The thread is the crochet cotton, #16, whatever that is!  Kind of like a #20, but softer and only a three ply.  It has a nice shine, though.

Dr. Threadmore's 'Earthy Rainbow'

24 Motif Challenge

I surprised myself while tatting this motif; I thought I would have a lot of trouble with it.  After all, it is one of Iris Niebach's, and I usually have a bit of a directional challenge with her patterns. However, this one was not too bad at all!  I'm all for progress in that realm!

Actually I did go the wrong way a number of times and had to ...what... retat; untat; frog; retrotat; tonk... what did we all have to say about that?  I'll stick to retat, a word that I do not think was even part of the vote (interesting post, here)!

The HDT is pretty to look at  - an interesting colourway -  and I would like to try it in a finer thread.

Krystle sent a big skein of this colourway in another thread; I will compare it to this one and report.  The next lot is not a regular tatting thread - more of a fine, three ply crochet cotton.

Now, I think I will try to replicate the necklace that Suneeti showed me that she made for her mom using beads and split rings....

P.S. For a better example of what this should look like, and what I aspire to, see IsDihara's blog!

Pop-A-Bobbin Shuttles Are Topnotch!

 In the mail to-day:

Are these not gorgeous pieces of art? 'I'm in the Garage,' is a wonder with wood.  He has refined the shuttles; the cedar is quite a bit smaller than the oak and also the elm one that I already have.  It is slimmer and sleeker.  He is really perfecting his design.  I love them both!

I had asked Sally for these woods as they are from old trees, and I am a huge sucker for old trees with old stories attached.  You can read all about this on her blog.  If you have not got a Pop-A-Bobbin, you are missing something very special!

I am lucky - I have a very fancy, decorated ball on the popper tool. Beautiful.

No one paid  me to write this!

Mirror, Mirror on the Wall...

Maebh demanded a pink trim for her skirt.
And green beads. No discussion followed.
