  2. My goodness, how silly of me! I thought it looked Japanese before, but of course now I recognize it as another Jan Stawasz pattern from the very same book I'm currently working on. The thing I like about doilies made from motifs instead of rounds is you can make them any size you want.

I like your version with the gradations of shade. Jan nearly always stuck with white or ecru and did most of his work in monochrome, and of course his pieces are all beautiful. But it's fascinating to see the effect of color on his designs too.

    1. Right on, Miranda! I am so surprised no one recognized the motif. It is one of my favourites of Jan Stawasz's designs. I figured you might have guessed it because I saw what you were up to and then you said Japanese design! : ))

    2. I think it was the smallish rings with lots of long decorative picots that made me think Japanese.

BTW, for the next update you might think about a different background color. I'm having to strain a little bit to see the lighter shades. I think a green or blue might show up all of your colors well.

  3. I was thinking it might be a Japanese design too after Miranda said it. I think Jan's designs look different when done in colour. I don't know why. Looking awesome as always Fox! Love your colour choices too.

    1. I hadn’t thought of that; colours do change the look of the Jan Stawasz patterns a lot. The lilac cap I knitted for my little cousin looked very different from the white version in the book.

    2. I noticed it with the pattern that Miranda is tatting. It looks so plain in the book, but the design really stands out with the colours she is using. I found the pattern you are making in Jan's book. It looks so, plain. Seeing yours makes me want to tat this design too.

  5. Thanks so much, Tatters!

I love this pattern and have tatted the motif a few times over the years... Never more than one at a time, though. : )
