Sweet

From Karey's recent Newsletter. I always find interesting little projects in her booklets:

This is a vintage pattern, apparently from an early 20th Century magazine. It's about 2" wide. Love it. I am going to play with this pattern as I tat the second Ben Fikkert.

Now, about the purple thread. Again, I used #80 Lizbeth. But surprise, surprise; this time it is SO

DIFFERENT from ALL the threads I used in both Ben Fikkert pieces. This purple feels stiffer, is not
as twisty and tats with lots of body to my work.

Thé inconsistent, undependable quality of Lizbeth threads continues to enrage me! But the colours always manage to lure into overlooking all the awful flaws. I wish there were an answer to this problem...like a new competitor in the world of thread to render Handy Hands more accountable.

How can I whittle down those floppy picots? With the tiny thread, for me, this a huge drawback; I don't seem to have enough control of the thread to tat tiny picots, though I keep trying. Very frustrating indeed.

  1. The motif is gorgeous! Looks so delicate too :). I think the bigger picots give it a lacier look :).

  3. Some people like larger picots, some like small ones. I can (usually) 'eyeball' consistent picots, but they are always so very SMALL. I can't seem to make bigger ones, even WITH a gauge. :-) Your motif looks wonderful, and the picots look 'just right.'

  4. I buy everything through thread corner after being wildly enraged by HH's (lack of) customer service. Great motif!

  5. It is a sweet motif. I think consistency of picots may be more important than their size and yours are consistent. You already know I don't think they're too big. Yes, go with them!!

  6. I like your frilly picots! I use my middle finger to shorten the distance, slowly, but then sometimes I need the hook because mine are too much tiny, frustrating as well.

  7. What are you like, I can't see much wrong with your lovely motif, they are not huge picots, like Stephanie said some people just can't do tiny weeny picots and others can't do large ones, you are in the middle they don't look over large, I hate doing large picots they either work out too large or too small, even with a gauge which drives me bonkers as I feel I have too much in my hands and get it where I want it. See we all have a problem with something.
They say practice makes perfect well after all the practice in the world if that's how they end up then it can't be bad. They don't look over large they look fine to me.
Actually I have been using the purple thread and although a little stiff I put that down to how much dye they used to get the thread that colour, it's not as stiff as some lizbeth colours.

  8. Have you tried the perfect quilter threads by superior threads? You would really tat very fast because they are faultless and have a wonderful slide and is a size 80 and to too tiny. like many quilting threads. You may find happiness with the picots :)

  9. Frustration lies on both ends of a picot ! I struggle to get my picots long & not always successfully ...
Your picots are a lovely length, adding an ephemeral/ airy quality to the beautiful motif ! Try imagining it 'bare' sans picots ;-P
