So Small

Maybe it's because I'm still in LARGE TAT mode, or perhaps this is going to be a much smaller mat than I imagined. Here I am so far:

Whatever the case about the size. Thís is a delight to tat.

Again, I have chosen #80 Lizbeth, and blue thread, as that is what my friend will appreciate when she receives this surprise.

I'm happy so far, with one reservation: my picots are TOO BIG!

I keep trying to whittle them to half the size, but I think my tatting DNA will never permit this structural change. I seem incapable of tatting tiny picots that I so admire in the works of other tatters.

  1. That is a beautiful motif! Is it another Ben Fikkert design? I'm feeling the urge to tat with size 80. I'm thoroughly enjoying JS, but finer thread is calling... maybe because it's all sitting in a nice big apothecary jar right next to my tatting chair!

    1. Yes, Diane, it is "Buttercups," a design by Ben Fikkert.

Now that I'm so used to small threads, I find thicker ones like rope. That can be a bit limiting. Just a small warning! : )

    2. I agree! However, I think I would have gone insane with my JS Masterpiece if my mistakes had all been in size 80. :-)

  2. I see where you mentioned the blues and white before :) yes this is very good looking! I like the large picots maybe because when I use finer thread it just comes easy to tat larger picots. Oh you make it so tempting to ditch my JS doily again for the pine-cones of Ben's I really want to tat :)

  4. I like the larger picots....it makes it look so lacy and frilly....unless they cause problems at the joins. Maybe make the join ones smaller..... but it looks absolutely wonderful and the colors are lovely! I am so itch'n to get stitch'n..... ;)

  5. I thought how pretty your picots were and then read that you thought they were too big!

  6. It's looking very pretty… and you are so courageous to tackle this in size 80!! Are these daisies all separate? A lot of work again. You are a brave woman.

  7. It is coming along beautifully :). I am the same when I went down from sz20 to sz40. Can't imagine how big my picots would be when I try sz80! Although your picots look fine :). It just gives the doily a more lacy look :).

  8. That looks beautiful, lovely colours and beautiful tatting, yes I did say beautiful tatting, I can't see anything wrong with your picots. I admire all the tatters than can tat with size 80 oh how I wish my eyes would let me, I am tatting purple at the moment and I find I am suffering the same as the black I can't see the stitches in bad light. It's got to be a bright light to see the tatting and that's no 20.
    Love to Mr G
