The Retractable Measuring Tape

I finished the Russian Mignonette pattern and had fun with it. The thread was DMC #8 Perle and I did enjoy tatting with it. I suppose on a large project it could be problematic, as it frays when un-tatting is called for, but it is lovely for a small design that can be soft and rather plush.

It was a bit of a squeeze to prevent that last row from frilling. Usually I don’t block with pins, but I had to in this case. It was worth the effort.

Mr G was very interested in that measuring tape! He loves to watch it retract and I can see the brain whirling as he fixates on it. Very cute.

  1. Very pretty! Is that Mr. G on your shuttle? ? ? It's fun to watch them try to figure out things! :) My kitty used to try to figure out how the door handle worked. She would sit and stare at it for a while and then reach up and tap it a couple of times and then sit back down and wait for it to open. When it didn't she repeated it all over again. :)

    1. Yes, G does that waiting game as well. It's a cat thing! And, yes, that is his majesty on the shuttle - a gift from a dear tatting friend. : )

  2. A pretty doily. I like the photo of Gian watching the tape, clearly fascinated.

  3. Sophia and Mr G have a love of tape measures in common! She's been walking around with a little plastic one that makes a nice ratcheting sound as the tape is pulled out. However, I have not accomplished any tatting as you have... such a pretty piece!

  4. I can imagine the wheels spinning in Mr. G's head . . .
Pretty motif - what is it that you are using to block it on?

  5. Thanks, Cindy. That is a cut-down square from this interlocking floor tiles my kids had. I wish now that I had saved a few big ones. They would be very handy for blocking larger pieces.
