Loping Along

...  with Renulek's Spring Napkin:

I have added solid green DMC,
to give some lightness to a very dark piece.

This eighth row is slow going with two threads, as there are so many slts.

... and with the crocheted blanket which has been sewn into 10 strips of 8 squares each.
It is big enough for an infant, pram and crib and I have had quite enough!

Give me tatting any day!

Those orange sticky circles?

My method for putting it all together in a pleasing way,
so that the squares worked together.

The Boss and Her Brother were very helpful
with their definitive directions.

Thanks Kids! ; )

  1. Keep going! - another round has just been posted. Yours is looking quite Christmassy in those colours - nice.
I, too, have to force myself to knit and crochet these days - but it goes in cycles, once the weather turns cooler, then tatting has a break. It's good to do different things occasionally, just to keep one's hand in!

    1. Hi, Maureen,

I care not a whit about keeping my hand in!

But I cannot tat a baby blanket; I do not sew or quilt, and I can crochet in my sleep, so crochet is the default craft.

  2. When I have a ton of squares, I'd rather crochet them together than sew them (either with slst or sc). I found that a zig-zag pattern starting at a corner will allow all the squares to be joined into a rectangle with NO sewing!

    1. Hi Susie,
I prefer the look and feel of the sewing method I use. Check back when I post the finished blanket and have a look!

    2. What you are doing LOOKS great! (I just hate sewing, so anything to avoid it makes me happy!)

  3. I like the way the solid green picks up the touches of green on earlier rounds. I look forward to hearing more about how you sew the crochet squares together. I nearly e-mailed you when I was sewing my crochet bag together.

  5. Um you certainly have got your work cut out with two projects on the go, but both looking great.
It is difficult to plan ahead with tatting thread not knowing what the finished napkin is going to look like!

  6. The doily is beautiful - the light green is just perfect on the 'flower' row! I used to crochet my squares together just to avoid the sewing, but I always wished afterward that I'd sewed them instead - I agree - it looks better when you sew them. Looks great!

  10. Delightful doily. I love crocheting granny squares, and hate sewing them together, maybe that's the state you are at now.

  13. And to think there was a time when I was sure, absolutely sure, that you would never tat a doily! ;-)

It's gorgeous, and I love your color choices!

  14. The doily is looking very nice - I can't wait to see it done. Are you adding any beads to this one? The baby blanket is beautiful too. It's so nice to see something for babies that's not pastel!

  15. Fox, you surprised me with the last row of the doily, using the greens and bits of red! Bold move, me thinks, but refreshing! I'm never so brave with colours. Will have a thing to learn from you. :D
Love how the granny squares are coming along. I'm sure little boss is going to be extremely pleased. Awesome gift.
