Three-On-The-Go: A Lot For Me!

1)

The Iris pattern is now understood. Finally. This is a complete element of the 6-repeat design. It lies flat with no blocking.

I cannot stand the colour, so after much muttering and internal debate and external blasphemy, I have decided to ditch this beginning and go with a new thread.

What is the point in going ahead if I dislike the colour? I realize I was just going to do so because it was tatted correctly. Bad reasoning. : )

2)
T.I.A.S.  Day 10

I still think it resembles an Amish-type carriage.

3)

ALMOST finished the 4th round of the Mystery Doily. I have learned the hard way not to tat this too late into the night, even if I am watching a movie. Too many slip-ups. This photo shows more buckling than there actually is. It lies pretty flat. I am happy.

Getting big - 8 inches.

This really is an amazing piece. Simple and repetitive, but at first baffling.

I am delighted that I struggled through the first bit, as this and the Victorian Trellis Doily are my all-time favourite pieces since I began the tatting life. : ))

  1. I can understand stopping work on a piece because of the color. Sometimes what seems to great on the ball looks appalling when tatted into certain patterns. I think Iris Niebach's patterns are so intricate that look best in one color -- but I do have a number of them in ombre shades and in variegates. It's funny that your TIAS is a carriage. Mine is a bicycle -- a wrecked bicycle. Thanks to you, I now have the Mystery Doily in the thinking stage. I'm thinking about doing it...maybe...sometime.

    1. I agree. One colour is best. I had started it in DMC #80, but it kinked up badly. I might try it in a gently variegated SUlky... Maybe.... Later...

Go for it. Start the MD... Dare you!

  3. Here's to your successes! I'm like you, if I dislike how a color looks, or how it works up with the pattern, I find it hard to even pick it up to work on. This just gives you a second chance to do it right ;-) I'm working on the TIAS but haven't done the last couple of days yet. The mystery doily looks wonderful.

    3) It's looking grand! This is such a neat doily and on my todo wish list.... near the top, and moving up the more versions I see of it.

  6. Hi Fox

What an interesting post, you have done, your first motif looking nice, sorry you don't like the colour but the pattern looks good, I looked up the pattern in the book and I think this piece you did is very good.
Your TIAS is looking good, I hope we will find out what it is soon, yours is looking good.
Your mystery doily is gorgeous and well done for keeping going, you have a beautiful doily as an heirloom for future generations.
    Love to Gian

    1. Perfect Quilter something or other...! I find it very insipid. I am surprised you like it because most of your stuff is pretty vibrant.

  8. What is the colour that you are rejecting? I am deeply ambivalent about the PQ pansies I have bought, however it is less offensive when I return to it than while I tat?
Three on the go is always interesting, I find I am constantly forgetting the stitch counts and having to open the pattern books or Grrr... find the online pattern! Early dementia!( Sometimes I just wing it...)

    1. Hi Snowy,
I don’t know what the colour is... maybe Peekaboo? I gave it away! I still have Pansy though as I like the colours though the changes are way too long. But I will keep it.
Three on the go is stressful, so I shall leave off the Iris on till I finish the MD.

  12. What I like best in this post is the last picture - the Mystery Doily with matching shuttle. It's all so elegant, I think one day you should collate all these artistic photos of your pieces in progress with their shuttles attached into one album. There have been so many over the years that are just a delight to look at.

    1. Thank you, Maureen.

Before tatting it was me and my Canon. I am a Flicker member- since. 2096 I think. So I have thousands of photos .

When I started blogging it was automatic to want to have a record of my pics, so I started using Blog-To-Print and have my blog in about 8 books! Right from the beginning . You can see what I am referring to on tat-ology if you look for it.

I now use my phone or iPad to record and my poor lovely camera languishes on my desk,,, alone and empty of photos. Sob.

  14. The Mystery Doily is AMAZING! I love the density of the tatting - all of the elements are so closely spaced it just looks rich and I bet it feels great in your hands as you work with it.
