Monsieur Intuitive

When I went to get my camera to show you how much I have tatted on the Stawasz doily, I found this. Honestly, this cat can be positively spooky! Look at his expression; he knows exactly what he is doing!

I have only three rows to finish this, but the second row is a stop-start operation, as it is done in 32 individual sections. LOTS of sewing in and I do not like the Magic Loop thing...  : (

If you recall, I had ordered two Boye shuttles locally, with the thought they would hold more thread and thus be helpful in having fewer ends to sew in.

Well, they do hold more thread but I cannot bear using them! They are not my cup of tea. So, whoever wants to trade a skein of HDT in variegated pastel colours or one light-colour solid, leave me a comment and I will happily trade. First come, first serve. I would love to get rid of them!

  1. I wouldn't be happy to find a cat sitting on my tatting! But then I don't own a cat like Gian. What a shame you don't like the shuttles, I hope you find someone to swap with.

  2. I have seen many things displayed on a doily, but this is a first!! :)

  3. Thanks for the offer but I'm a bobbin shuttle person!!!! Cat's are so funny. We have a race to see who can get into the bath first in the morning. Once she's in there she hogs it for ages!!! She doesn't like water particularly but she likes to drink it from puddles in there!!!

  4. Is Gian telling you that your doily is beautiful, or that he wants more attention?

I say the doily is looking wonderful!

  5. Hi Fox

He looks at home n your tatting, I am sure in another life he was a tatter, Pity you can't give him a shuttle to tat something for you!!!!!
Your doily is looking beautiful, guess what I finally got Jan's book on Saturday, not managed to get a full look at it yet.

  8. Ah...Boye oh Boy...I love them because Grandma used them, but I really do not enjoy using them myself. They are stiff feeling and the pick isn't sharp enough to work quickly. Her's sit in her tatting box, and are petted now and then, as they belonged to her...but that is that :-) I hope you find someone who loves them and wants to trade!

Your cat amuses...I had two beloved siamese once upon a many year ago, prior to being married to man who is allergic and having a child who is the same. I miss them, they have such personality...you can SEE their thoughts on their expressive faces. They are clever creatures.

  9. He He , just like a little kid who wants alllll the attention.
    Your mat is looking spectacular.
I have ordered the book and it will be here next week.
Sorry, I am not interested in your Boye Shuttles, I am a committed bobbin shuttle fan, or should I just be committed?

  10. Hello Fox: Cats just know. They watch us and when they get the chance, admire what we are doing. I often wonder what they are thinking.

Your tatting is lovely. So beautiful.

As for the shuttle, the new Boye aren't my favorite, either. I was thinking to have them "blinged" this Summer. If I'm not tatting with them, perhaps decorating them would be fun.

Enjoy the day - tat well

  11. No cats in my house, because I would not find it at all amusing to have a cat sitting on my tatting. I'm just not a cat person. However, I am very happy that there are people like you and two of my daughters who adore cats. They do need happy homes!

I don't care for the new Boye shuttles either. I am keeping mine to remind me of how much I dislike them!

  12. Cats when they adopt that pose of smugness with their paws folded up neatly underneath, are at their most content. So Gian is just happy that he's sitting on your tatting because he knows it makes him as precious as the thread! And he will be noticed.
I do miss my cat - but will never have another.
Have you tried the new Clovers? - they hold heaps of thread.

    1. Thanks, Maureen,
I have tried the Clovers. I think I just have to admit that I cannot tat with anything but bobbin shuttles. I could not use the big Clovers either! I traded them. : )

  13. Bonjour M. Gian:

Atta boy! It would help if you barfed on and clawed the thread thingy, but keeping her away from it works too.

  14. Hello Fox,

I love your tatting its coming along nicely. G looks like he likes it as well but wants some of that attention for himself. ;)

I was wondering if you could tell me the name of your local shop seeing as I live in Oakville and might like to visit the shop when I visit my daughter who resides in your fair city. Thanks!

    1. Hi Synderai,
      Thanks!

I go to Mary Maxim in The Eglinton Centre. But they have almost nothing for tatting. i order Cebelia or the shuttles ahead of time so they can order it in to the shop. Takes about a week.

Here is the link to the shop:

    2. Oh thanks so very much!! It's so hard to find anything tatting related in Ontario. :(

  15. Hey, I would dye you up some pastel thread for the shuttles, but I personally have some of the same shuttles that I'm looking to pass along as well. I don't like them either, at all. I'm a dedicated Clover fan.

Gian looks so handsome on those colors! Did he adjust well when you moved recently? I've started worrying about how Layla is going to take to moving this summer.

    1. G is an indoor cat and I don’t think Layla is.... It only took him a day to adjust because he is in a small space here.

You will have to keep her inside for a while. I have done that with a few pets when I lived in places with outdoor access. However, I would not let a pet out on the busy streets today - too dangerous.

    2. Layla is an inside cat as well. She is very persnickety though. After, I adopted her from the animal shelter, she spent over a year in my bedroom before she ventured out in the hallway. She finally "moved" downstairs after Livi was born, which was 2 1/2 years after I brought her home.
Hopefully with her age (She's almost 10 now) and since she knows us now that she will be okay. We'll see though.

I had a cat that was hit by car, so I wouldn't want her outside anyway. Which works out well for her. I tried to take her out in the backyard to see how she liked it. She just stood by our fence, looked at me helplessly and meowed. Poor thing. :o)

    3. Oh good! So, keep her in side and give er lots of treats and hugs and she will be fine by the evening. It does help to keep her in one room for a few hours with all her things, before you give her the run of the house. : )

  17. Beautiful doilies! and your kitty-cat is very lovely too! I have cats and they always find a way to be in my lap or sitting in front of my chair when I tat. I actually keep a ball of yarn in my tatting bag that I throw to them to play with so they think they are getting my tatting thread :) I agree; I'm not a huge fan of the Boye shuttles either. They are a bit cumbersome to tat with and I find that they don't wind and un-wind as easily as Lacis or Clover shuttles. Happy Tattings!

    1. Allison, thanks for the tip! I shall go to the dollar store and buy a ball of yarn. But I shall watch G like a hawk, my my last little friend liked to eat thread bits, wool bits- any fibre he could weasel into his mouth! Not healthy!

      G isn't a nibbler, so I shall try it. : )

  18. Your doily is looking fabulous! Gian is looking mighty comfy on your doily. I see that part of him matches the outer row colour.......I love cats, but I have a serious allergy that does not respond to the needles....sigh.....DH is allergic, too. We've been feeding a feral cat since last fall, and he's now quite tame, and very friendly to me, but he fears OP's. I just have to housebreak him, and then he'll be accepted in the local fostering program. We may be moving soon. He's such a sweetie.

  19. I love seeing pictures of your cat! Those eyes are beyond awesome. If I was not allergic to cats, I would want a siamese. Their striking looks aside, I really like their character! He also looks quite majestic on that doily...

  20. Gian must be adoring your doily. He's just saying it's his! :)

    Never tried those shuttles.

  21. I haven't tried using those shuttles - I think I have clover, aero, pony (looks like an aero) and one plastic tortoise shell that I don't know the brand. oh, and a metal shuttle from mum's mum that is probably stainless steel. I don't have any HDT but would be willing to do a deal with Jess to send you some.

    1. Thanks for the offer, Meryl, but I will not be trading them as I tried an experiment that failed! Stay tuned.... Thanks again for the offer, but I do not think they are worth the cost of HDT!
