Blind Eye To Blunders

- about 12 inches in diameter -

Here we are with the Snowflake Napkin - all up to date and wondering how many more instalments will follow. The purple thread is very low and I am considering the options, which depend on the design of the next row.  Will have to wait for the next Renulek reveal!

I kept tatting the same error over and over and have cut many repeats from this last row. Funny how this happens with some patterns and not others - they just seem jinxed from the very beginning.

Toward the very end of the row, I noticed a few repeats back that I had managed the same blunder, and I did not have the will to cut yet again, so I left it.

Luckily, I see that it doesn’t really matter. You can find it if you are looking at the work as a critical tatter, but I do not think it is obvious. If it is - I just don’t care! This row is done!

  1. Hi Fox

It's looking lovely, like you I am wondering how many more rows, I do have to buy some more thread to complete the snowflake rounds, I also have made a pair if earrings from the snowflake pattern which I will post on my blog

I hope my mat will look as lovely as yours.

    Love to Gian

  2. I know what you mean about some pieces just being jinxed from the very start - it's weird how one can just keep doing the same thing over and over again (and expect different results?!) Whatever the errors, they aren't glaring - and I certainly don't look at pieces that closely. The doily is looking great! I hope your thread options remain as lovely as always :)

  4. This absolutely JUMPS off my screen. It is just spectacular! Even DH said "Wow!" I emphasized to him that you had been re-tatting the outer round and cutting several times! I constantly am amazed at your patience, especially doing these large items! I can't imagine where Renulek is taking this! I just know that this is so unusual with the stars, and in your colors this is a standout!! I can easily see it with a big Blue ribbon and 'Best of Show', at a Fair., and it's not even finished yet!

  5. Beautiful, beautiful! Yes, there's a time for cutting and a time for going on regardless. The mat is so spectacular, mistakes are just not going to be noticed.

  7. This is stunning, Fox! What a great piece.
I believe that little errors add to the charm of an item, and proves that it's handmade. I often leave them in my work. I can't believe your patience in cutting out and re-tatting so many times. (I think I'd have had a fit of frustration and tossed it!)

  8. Large pieces hide a lot! Fine thread hides a lot! Metallic thread hides a lot! All kidding aside, this is a wonderful piece and I love the colors you have chosen. Once the whole piece is complete, you will have to probably look very hard to see the mistakes.

  9. element between the snowflakes is not symmetric with me but with you is symmetric. outdoor flower should be higher - the sixth row would be better composing.
but it's nice, very nice! and, of course - crazy colors - super!

    1. Renulek, I was delighted to see your comment! Thank you!

I have actually tried a few elements of the last row, but all my thread looks wrong with the colours... Better to leave it rather than mess up that last row.

I love this piece - beautiful design. Thanks for the enjoyable journey!
