Judicious Manipulations

71/4 inches
Those are just big, fancy words for 'I changed the stitch count to make the two sizes of threads work for this pattern, from Karey Solomon’s new book:'
I went from this thread:

to #40 Lizbeth for the last two rows,
as I was going to run out of the Babylo.

It is such a thick thread that I had to fill the bobbin three times for the inner two rows. That is the problem with heavier thread.

I was lucky that I had the end of a ball of the variegated pink and green Lizbeth, which is now gone, in order to complete the pattern in colours that worked.  There was also a small ball of a good #40 Lizbeth green in my stash.

What do you think? It works?

The frustration was so great I have ordered two of the larger Clovers, so that should I tat another of Karey’s doilies I will not have to keep adding thread!

Though these are post shuttles, I am willing to give them a shot for the larger pieces, as I have become impatient with adding thread, I’m afraid. ( I was also  AGAIN enabled by Diane. Heheheh!)

Now,
Kathy Rocks!
She said she would put up some instructions for interlocking rings on her blog and she has quickly done it! Yay, Kathy! Thank you so much! It took me only two attempts and this is what I did, quite effortlessly, I might add!

Kathy will be adding the next part - the last join - soon. I am so grateful as it has taken me forever to be able to do these rings. And it is all accomplished with a shuttle. So cool.

  2. That is a pretty mat. Those colors work very well, and I think you did very well adjusting the stitch counts.

I like your interlocking rings. They look very good.

  3. The colors in your doily work beautifully as does the change in thread size. Congratulations, too, on your interlocking rings. I, too, have been enjoying Kathy's tutorial.

  4. Absolutely works. The colours look wonderful together. I've saved Kathy's instructions for the interlocking rings, but haven't tried them yet. I'm glad she had the key for you!

  5. That looks wonderful. Nicely coordinated and lovely! It works together.

I tried the interlocking rings too. I was not sure if it was right but the 3rd attempt looks promising.

  12. I think it looks great - absolutely works. I would really like to make more doilies, but after crocheting for so many years, the tatted doilies take so LOOONNGG to make anything of the size I'd like. (Maybe it's just me?) How big is this finished doily? Looks like a book I may have to have :)

I like the idea of the larger Clovers too, for bigger projects. Like you, I hate adding thread. But I love my LaCossette shuttles with the hook too . . . I guess I must "need" more equipment. And the interlocking rings look fun. Is it a disease to just want to have and do everything?

  13. Before we head off to our family gathering, I simply HAD to let you know how THRILLED I am to see your rings! I was holding my breath waiting to hear that you noticed the tutorial, and I was SO delighted that you already had tried it, and were successful! THEN you did this post - with that gorgeous motif (dare I say 'doily'?), and was just scrolling down - and there were the beautiful rings! I am delighted! I'm hoping to do the second part tomorrow. I'm trying to simplify it as much as possible!

    1. Thanks, Mica. I am fast losing my fascination with the rings, as the process reveals itself... Don’t know if I’ll ever use the technique, but it is certainly good to know it. : )
