New Earrings, Tat-A-Long Update & A Proposition

I have been very busy.

Added to Etsy:

I am very happy with these earrings, as I have been looking at the pair of findings I purchased ages ago for about a month wondering how to tat them into earrings.

Last night, suddenly I knew exactly what to do. I like them a lot. When do I say that? So, you KNOW I like them!

Then:

Round 4 of Renulek's Tat-A-Long completed. Goodness, it is BIG.  Largest tat I have accomplished to date.

(Later: Suz has brought it to my attention that I did not give the measurement.  As it is now it measures 8 inches across!)

The last one she designed was 18 rounds. This has become quite awkward to hold with the shuttle, so I cannot imagine how it is going to be as it gets larger. Also, I have no idea how large Renulek intends to make it.
A Proposition

Because I have managed to wrestle my thread stash into what I consider a manageable state after swaps, trades, give-aways and prodigious amounts of good, old, obsessive non-stop tatting:

I had an idea.
Here's the deal:

I am offering these two very large samples to anyone who can supply me with samples - and don't worry - they need NOT be anywhere as big as mine, so don't worry!

I am looking to try samples of threads:

Lizbeth
Herbal Garden        #179
Cranberry Bush      # 181
Spice Cake             #182
Foam Latte             #168
Vineyard Harvest   #131

If you can send me one large sample of one of these
or a few smaller ones of the above, we could trade.

I will have fun with whomever can send in the first agreeable offer.  : ))

Anyone?

  2. The earrings are outstanding! Lovely, lovely!

I have the same problem with the quatrain now, big to work with.

Are you only looking for variegated threads or do you have interest in solids too?

  4. those are very pretty earrings.
I like how that large doily is turning out. the little spark of yellow breaks up the heavy red and purple.
how in the world do you have so little thread? my stash is way bigger then that.

as for the swap, I have Vineyard Harvest in size 20.

  8. First of all, I'm completely blown away by that STUNNING doily! When I first saw the 4th round on Renulek's post, I would have called it quits! That's a LOT of tatting! And your colors are GORGEOUS - just amazing! Plus PERFECT tatting!

Next, the earrings are SO attractive. Amazing how a simple chain and some beads add to the elegance of these filigree pieces.

Sorry I don't have any thread in those colors, except Vineyard Harvest, and I'm just about out of that one! I'm sure you'll find some 'takers' on your offer!

We're on the fringes of Hurricane Sandy in Western Pennsylvania and are holding our breath. How are things going there?

  13. So glad to see you have a few nibbles for trading thread. Email me with any unclaimed color ways and I will check my stash. I don't have any Herbal Garden, but I think I have all the others in either size 40 or 20.

Your earring are so darling! They turned out so nicely. And that Tat-Along mat would have done me in for sure! But your color choices are superb and the stitches look great. Well done!

  19. I am quite envious of the colour scheme in that doily and really want to do something similar...however I do want to try to finish what I have already started. I love Renuluk's pattern, but I feel that your colour scheme shows it to advantage. I don't know what to think about her snowflake round, though...will you be continuing?

    1. Hey, Snowy!
Hi! That colour scheme happened only because I was desperate to use up some threads that were just sitting there collecting the proverbial... Lucky for me and the 'napkin,' (Love that word for doily, which I LOATHE! How neurotic is that???) it is quite striking!

Yes, I will follow to the end - which may take a long time as she does not post the following round for several weeks, according to the last doily she designed, which I am now tatting as I wait for row 5!

What do you mean about the snowflake round?
      Fox : )

      Delete
    2. Oh, I was looking at her blog, and the latest round is snowflake motifs attached to the outside...it might work if there were another round to "glue" it all together.
I had a look at all the rounds making up the gigantic napkin...and it is amazing but somewhat formidable. I am tempted by that one, too...but I want to keep my feet on the ground!
I study your progress with interest. :)

  20. Snowy,
Oh my goodness! i didn't realize this motif was part of the doily!!! I printed it out because I liked it and was going to tat it but thought Renulek was taking a break from the doily and playing around.... what was I thinking?

I am so glad you commented! Thank you! I would have fallen behind waiting for the next instalment!

I am happy you are following this little adventure... Knowing that helps keep me inspired.

    1. Snowy - if you look at Renulek's recent post, she has addressed this issue and there has been "glue" added. I just caught up with it a few minutes ago!

  21. There are so many comments on here that I thought you didn't need another one, but I just have to tell you that your version of the Renulek mat is stunning. Love the colours and the way it looks. There's a lot of work there! I've realised that the tat-along is for in-tatters, I've just seen the pattern on Renulek's blog. Since it's in Polish, I also thought the snowflake was a new venture! I look forward to seeing your progress. I did like the original in white too. The pattern is definitely on my to-do list.

    1. Hi, Jane,
      I LOVE comments! Thank you!

Yes, it is a lot of work - especially the next row. But I am enjoying it immensely.

The pattern is for anyone who reads Renulek's blog - that is where I found it! There are a lot of Polish tatters who have tatted it; check out Bean's blog (Polish) Hers is beautiful.
