Tat-Along Temptation

Jess's #40 Olive Warbler

I had to hurry up and finish that hankie in order to begin the Tat-Along.  I seem to be incapable of concentrating on more than two projects at a time; I find it stressful to have too many enjoyable things on the go.

If I do, the fun flees; I take myself far too seriously.  So, I completed the hankie, before beginning this,
though I had the shuttles loaded with Jess's HDT, ready to go!

I was surprised to see how heavy #30 Cèbèlia feels, since I have been tatting with mainly Lizbeth #40. Also, I sewed the border on with #50, and that was a bit bulky, but I do not have #80 in white. I really like #40 thread.  It is not too heavy, yet not as light and lacey-looking as #60 or smaller.

Still, for a $1.00 purchase and a way of using
up my old thread, it was a success.

  1. I can't believe how much tatting you get done! That hanky edging is beautiful! Just perfect! It's amazing how tatting adds so much class to these colorful hankies! I'll have to copy over those blocking instructions, as it's a great idea and worth the effort!

The Coronet doily is looking just fine; and here you are, joining the Tat Along! It's all I can do just to read the blogs!

    1. Thanks, Kathy. I cannot believe how much you write on everyone's blogs - your comments are so well-though out and lengthy!

I spend way too much time with a shuttle in my hand. I am totally addicted to the activity of tatting, let alone the blog, the books, the catalogues. It is actually quite scary!

I am enjoying the Coronet Doily very much, now that I am using a decent thread. It is a lovely pattern.

    1. Livi was doing my hair just now. (We came back to see comments)
She said, "Oh, you tatted some really pretty stuff!"
I told her it wasn't mine, that you had tatted it. She was very impressed and thinks that you could sell it for lots of money. ;o)

  8. That is a lovely colour of HDT and great name. I am tatting a doily and an edging in progress and already have two more projects in mind. But we want to have fun, don't we. Serious folks like us need to have fun. Your hanky is so pretty.

  10. Thanks for the wonderful comments tonight! So nice to be acknowledged and appreciated in Tat-land. Where else do I get to display my tatting and get such great feedback?

I LOVE the new thread... it is nice to work with as well. Thanks Jess!

uminstsuru - Serious tatting does keep me out of trouble. Curtails overactive conversations in my head; keeps curiosity chromosomes in line and manages to produce pleasing shapes and colours!

Michelle, Glad you like the hankie - It was you, after all, who inspired and enabled the hankie fixation!

  12. I've just been reading the newsletter from Bella online; the bit about associating a particular pattern,or style of tatting with an individual. Based on that premise, I see beads and immediately think of you! I would never have thought of putting tiny beads on a hanky edging, and it's so gorgeous!

  16. Fox, you are a Power-Tatter among tatters with the amount of lace that reels off your shuttles. And it all looks so pretty! Your Tat-Along round one really shines in that Olive Warbler thread. Looking forward to seeing round two.

And oh, what a hanky! So sweet, dainty and proper. Great salvage and embellishment. Now it is a showstopper!

Your Coronation doily will be a stunner too. Slow and steady...

  18. Fox, so glad to see you have started on the first round of the tat-along Lace Mat! Round 1 looks awesome in Jess' HDT. Can't wait to see what you'll do next - solid colour or same HDT? Yes, it's a teaser, you know?

Gorgeous hanky there. So that's what you are working on?! Well, tatters rarely only work on 1 project at a time. The 'culture' is having WIPs, heehee.

    1. Me neither, Suz! I do know that I have gotten faster after having copied Frivole's method of the 'slip-slide' shuttle movement. You can see it on her U-Tube videos...
