Visit From The Tatting Muse!

Another late night,
a vintage button (about 1/2 inch)
leftover Calliope Special thread from Jess, and
some beautiful green beads and voilà!

"Lillian"

 #58

The front is convex, as this is to be a pendant,
and there is the back of the button to consider - see next photo.

 Backside and covered button:

Double Josephine Knots!
Aligator Joins!

Beads!

There was a trip to the Bead Store for the chain, the rings and the clasp:

What say you?

p.s.  I was so impressed bit umintsuru''s hankie yesterday, that this morning I went looking for something for blocking my tatting.

After having been led astray by a conversation I read on InTatters about polystyrene blocking boards and where to get them in Toronto, I came away from one of the establishments not with their wares, which were totally wrong for blocking, but with free insulation and styrofoam given to me by the sympathetic shopkeeper!  There are such good people out there in the world! (as long as you do not say the word: copyright!)
Later: These are small pieces - about 4x6 inches... or so.  I will need a larger one for hankies.  I have washed these and covered them with a very clean J-cloth, cut and taped to the back.  Looks like I might be ready to ditch the dread iron!

    1. This is so funny! I was so focussed and worried about getting this just so, because I wanted to add it to the little Etsy business I seem to have created that I had not even considered the fact that someone might actually want the pattern!

Bonus! Really? You like it? I am so happy!!!!! l***little dance going on over here***

Well, I will write it up, but this one is going to take a bit of time because of that convex thing... Took me a while to figure out how to do it with the button I wanted, but as it is a 1/2 incher, so very common, which makes things a bit easier.

I will work on this over the weekend. Thank you so much for such a jolt of adrenalin! You have made me joyful, Miranda! Gian is disgusted with the display, I might add... ahem....

  3. Great design and beautiful thread! You really ARE on a roll! Such an outpouring of creativity!! Are you stiffening this pendant in some way? I am wondering how it will hold its shape, although it looks fine in the photos! You're way advanced for me! Alligator joins and double Josephine rings!

  5. Very cool! If you were to put a couple more rounds on this, it would make a great hair bun cover. My sister tatted a few of those for me back when I had long hair and I loved them. I absolutely love the colors you are using this week

  7. Great design!
But if you want to hang the pendant on a chain it should be in gold color - like this button base...

    1. Hi, Marta,
Thank you for the suggestion! I actually spent a while looking at chains and the gold was just too bright. It overshadowed the motif so I picked a sort of burnished brass coloured one, that is lighter than the photo.

I am hoping it works! It does look much too dull and dark here on tat-ology, so I really do appreciate your comment.

  8. Hi Fox

That is a lovely pendant, I love the way it curves, and of course the colours are lovely.
You are on a roll, I could not find any do dars when I went shopping, not to worry there is another shop and they have a bigger supply of jewellery items, I did find something different which I will be trying when I get time.

Have a nice weekend, Love to Gian

  9. You are on a roll! Lovely!! I forgot to say that the polystyrene board is actually very compact. I used the cover of the packing box of the I-robot. Hope it works for you.

    1. Hi!
My boards are tiny! Only about 6x6 inches. For a hanky, I would have to find a larger one. I shall try and get one from someone's packing box as you did.

Thanks for all this - hope it works. I won't know till I have something to try it on.

Maybe I can rid myself of having to use the dreaded iron! That would be bliss!

  10. I love the tongue in cheek mention of the dreaded C word, I almost sprayed my iced tea all over my patterns. I have a June Tailor cut and press, which is used for pressing quilt blocks, very handy and it has intersecting lines and circles for pinning things equally. It would definitely fit a hankie.

    1. Oh, Connie! Oh, you made me laugh! Thanks for that. Loved your comment! I had to hasten to find your words, because I had NO IDEA about what you meant be by my use of the C word, as I had forgotten about that post... I panicked! Well, you can imagine the scene... : )))
