New Design by Jon - Toshti!

                                      TOSHTI                              #62
   Design by Jon Yusoff
Doodad added, tatted by Fox

Jon has graciously allowed me to give this terrific new design a name - one that would have meant a lot to my mum, so here it is: Toshti.

I was asked if I would like to test-tat this and add a ... DOODAD!  Would I?

Of course, I was delighted to accept the challenge, especialy as I now have a  wealth of new doodads to choose from.

Yesterday's mail brought these beauties from
Diane
The Diva of Doodads!

Toshti is a lovely pattern - straightforward, not difficult in technique, but requiring attention.  I made many mistakes and had to un-tat a lot, because I could not keep my attention on it yesterday.  But, as you can see, it still looks mighty fine!  Thank you, Jon!

Once again she has created an interesting shape, and this time one that even lends itself to Tat-land's newest  desire of the day: doodad dalliance.

Stepping away from findings, I want to show you what I am up to now.

It is something simple, as I cannot handle tough tatting right now.

I have this book, because I once saw that Diane had tatted a hankie border, a very simple one, that she had found in it.

Yesterday I gave up on the borders I have been trying out for the hankie, because I could not manage the tedium of the #80 - too small for now, when I need a more mindless pattern.

When I then tried a #40 thread and a larger pattern by Angelin Crichlow, I realized the border would be too large and cumbersome for the hankie.

Though border was too big, I really liked the navy thread, so I found the easiest pattern I have ever tatted.

The pattern is ridiculously simple, but I have never completed an entire hankie by tatting as I go, so this is quite a challenging task, as it takes a bit of practice to get it neatly secured to the material.

I am going to stick with this one, as I have to finish it in a couple of days in order to give it to the recipient, and for dollar-store quality of material - well -  it will be just fine.

Lastly, I buckled.

Yup.  I ordered some Valdani#12.

I just could not help myself - the colours are so delicious and I am so inspired by Rachel's fabulous blog that I visit every single day to see what she is up to!

It is all her fault that I am now in possession of these new threads that I always say I find too fuzzy!

Thanks, Rachel! : ))

your hanky edging works very well and for a project with a deadline simple and elegant works very well.

    1. Thanks, Ladytats. Yes, I am enjoying the non-stress of it immensely! Sometimes it is very nice to tat mindlessly and not have to be challenged at every DS!

  5. Great job on Toshti! I should have joined the clover at the points. I didn't, so I had to leave the clovers out. What was I thinking? I'm only halfway through, but I do like the pattern. I'm glad the doodads arrived safe and sound, you enabler, you! Diva of Doodads... ha!

I was just looking at Bessie's book the other day. I put it away, because I just wasn't feeling inspired. Too many ideas rolling around in my head right now, I guess. I love the simple edging you're doing. I was thinking of tatting a similar edging myself. Could it be that we are kindred spirits? ;-)

    1. Me the enabler? HAHAHAHAHAH! I have an entire library because SOMEBODY raved about all these books! Not to mention all kinds of implements, shuttles, threads....

You and I should go Tat-land shopping together one day. Oh, that would be quite the 'adventure!' What a day it would be!

  6. I've never attached an edging as I go, either! - but it does look pretty. When you are in the mood for it,challenge yourself with Oliver Twist threads. Debbie Arnold sells the sets.
Ginny Weathers, when she came to visit me, had some of this with her, and tatted tiny lizards and a crocodile with it - you can see them on her blog. She says it is between sizes 80 and 100 and is wonderful to tat with. Fabulous colours.

    1. #80 - #100??? I have enough trouble with the DMC #80. I do like the colours of the Oliver Twist threads, however... Not that I have looked..much! Maybe I should try just one... : ))

      Thanks for the comments, Maureen!

  9. You tatted Jon's motif beautifully, and the doo-dad fits perfectly! Beautiful thread, too! This motif has moved quickly from design phase to finished motif! Amazing!

  10. Oh my, what a smashing design! Go Jon ; ) And, beautifully tatted - Go Fox ; )

(btw, I agree, Valdani is soft and fuzzy. When I use it, I tat gently - and don't knot quite so tight ... just my two cents worth)

    1. Good advice, Leila. I usually pull way too hard and then get frustrated when I try and un-tat... You know what I mean!

  11. Glad to see you giving Valdani another try, Fox! The Luxury Pearl Silk is my absolute favorite thread to tat with, although I do use the pearl cotton quite a bit. And many thanks for your kind words- it means so much to know I bring inspiration to others!!!

Oh- a little hint on working with Valdani: I will sometimes "condition" the pearl cotton by running it through a bit of folded dryer sheet. It seems to help it slide off the needle easier.

  12. Hi Fox
    Greeting from free Greece .
Love the pattern that Jon has designed. Your hanky ending looks lovely, and the colour hopefully will not be too dark for you to tat.
I got my doodads from Diana as I was leaving, so I will be having a play with them in the next couple of weeks.
    Love to Gian
    Take care
    Margaret
Ps at last I have sun on my skin, after leaving England in heavy rain we landed here to heat 90+ and cloudless skies. So I will be getting my dose of vitiimin D
