Tatting for the Nurse

My mom is in the hospital so I have had little time to tat.  But I did manage some and as I was tatting away, mom’s nurse took a real interest in what I was doing as she has also tatted in her life as does her mom and sister!  Her sister also does bobbin lacework.  So we had a great talk and she was pleased when I offered to give her to one of my giveaway motifs! Yesss!

All this was good for the spirits.  Here is what I got done over the last few days.  It did not turn out as I had anticipated as the instructions are not clear and I misread the photo in the Priscilla Book #2.

#34     From Priscila Book #2   #40 Lizbeth thread

The edging has yet to be attached to the hankie.
It will have to wait till I have time.

P.S.  The pattern is from TATTING PATTERNS by Julia E. Sanders, which is basically the same as the Priscilla book, or so I understand!

  1. Well, not knowing what it's "supposed to" look like, I think it's quite lovely.
    Best wishes to your mom!

  2. Sorry your mum has been ill, but great that you met someone interested in tatting! Did Marilee not tat that pattern once? I have the book, though I think it's in Zimbabwe, and that's why I noticed when Marilee tatted it. But I may be misremembering. I have tatted some spectacular things from the book, but yes, the directions are not always easy to follow!!

  3. This is incredible, I looked at that pattern this morning after seeing an invitation to a couvige with a theme "les pensés de l'éspoir". However I am not tatting much at all.... I ought to start again shouldn't I?
You have done a lovely job...how difficult was it?

    1. Hi, Snowy,
Because I did not follow the pattern properly, it was fiddly. I think with the pattern available on InTatters (look up ‘pansies’) it would not be difficult at all as the pattern is well re-written and very clear which will make the tatting so much easier! You would tat a beautiful rendition, I know!

  7. After looking at that pattern, I can see how it would be confusing. Still, the motif looks very pretty, and you were able to spread that tatting love!

I hope you mom gets well soon!

  8. Well the flower is gorgeous!
That's wonderful that you met another tatter, but so unfortunate that your mom is in the hospital! Hope she gets better!!

  9. Well, I think it's pretty even if it's not exactly like the pic. Is it a brooch for the nurse?
Hope your Mom gets better soon.

  12. This did turn out very nice even if not as you had thought it would. It's fun when we get pleasant surprises. Another example of the unexpected - you got to meet a tatter you may have not have met otherwise - at the hospital. Prayers for your Mom. Karen in OR

  13. Ooooo...I LOVE pansies and so want to try this pattern....as you said though the pattern directions are not the best so I have yet to venture to do this. You have done a beautiful job with it and it looks like a pansy so what ever mistake you made keep it up as it is gorgeous just the way it is :)

  14. It's beautiful and love the colors! BTW there is a Sarah on Intatters who rewrote the pattern and is looking for test tatters. You might want to pop over there and take a look for the discussion "3-D Pansy from Priscilla Tatting Book No. 2".

  15. I hope your mother is feeling better soon. Tatting is a great stress reliever. I have that book and have looked at that motif more than once, but was always a little put off by its shape. **** I stand corrected, I have TATTING PATTERNS by Julia E. Sanders - I'm not sure if the instructions have been rewritten at all for this book.**** ANYWAY, I like the shape of your motif better myself.

  17. I like your pansy better than the one shown in the photo! I know the color adds to it, but yours has a more 3-D effect!

You never know where you'll met another tatter! I hope your mom is feeling better.

  19. Thank you, Everyone, for the well wishes for my mom. She is pretty ill. I do appreciate your comments and thoughts very much.

****For anyone interested in a revised pansy pattern, read Marilee’s comment above. It looks so much easier to follow than the original. Thanks Marilee!

  20. Best wishes for a speedy recovery for your Mom -and for you. It is always hard to have a family member in the hospital.

As for the pansy: It can be a wild one. There are lots of variations in the world. :-) Besides, this one is perfectly lovely.
