Re-Validating Valdani

Seems to me I gave away my supply of Valdani not too long ago, after a long rant about its negative features. Figures.

I was waiting for my car to have its oil change and went for a little stroll yesterday when I stumbled across a yarn shop.

Since leaving knitting in the dust, I have not been inside a knit/crochet establishment for many, many months. But, as I was killing time, in I ambled and immediately spotted a tiny box of colour, tucked in a corner.

Yup. Figures. Valdani #12.

I just could NOT resist these.  They are so much brighter than the muddy Valdani colours I had before, so I just had to give them another chance.  What’s a tatter to do?

The pattern I picked out for the purple is lovely and I am very happy with the little motif so far.

I just had to have a break from my tat-one-at-a-time habit-hanky!

Progress to date:

  1. Lovely bright colors. Do we get to see the motif without the balls of thread covering it up?

  3. Your hankie edge is really coming along well!! I know what you mean about starting a project thinking it is a good idea only to be reminder about just how long it takes to finish said project. Keep up to good work!!

  5. I think the hanky edging is so sweet in your thread choice. I like tatting with Valdani #12, too. ;-)

  6. I'm glad you found something fun to do during you wait. To find lovely colors and find the thread isn't so bad - such a nice find. Looking forward to seeing the purple motif. The hanky edging is lookin' good.

  7. What a lovely inner row for your purple project! (Did I just give a hint?) Those Valdani colors are spectacular. I commend you for breaking up the monotony of your hanky edging.

  8. Even though this was a knit/crochet establishment, I'm surprised they had 'thread'. Is it something they keep in stock? Wouldn 't it be great if there were a knit/crochet/tatting supplies shop? I am still amazed at how much tatting you do!

    1. Kathy, I was surprised. Valdani was all the thread they had - the rest was bulky yarn... I shall go back sometime and check for new colours. Not much was left I was told, and the remaining colours were not to my liking. Just as well!

    1. Hmm. Yes, they are lovely, but they are a boring pain to tat! And the kids grow out of them so soon!

And hankies? Whatever does one do with tatting-edged hankies?

Ah, what a strange obsession we tatters endure! Thanks for the comment, wickedtats.

  12. Rachel, at Piney Woods http://pineywoodstatter.blogspot.com/ loves her Valdani, and has a lot of wonderful colors that she uses. If you haven't seen her work, you might want to check it out.

    1. Thanks, Ladytats,
I follow her blog - I am certain she is a needle tatter. This thread is perfect for needle tatting, and I think not as appropriate for the shuttle, as it is fuzzy and two ply.
