Wrong Border?

I am conflicted.  Do not know whether to continue or start a new edging for the jacket.  It cannot go on the very end as it looks too dainty, so I tried it halfway onto the end:

On the edge:

Then I tried it upside down.

What do I do?
Do I try another pattern like the wonderful
Mary Konior Leaf Braid edging
that I saw on Sharren's blog?

Do I sew it halfway on?
Help!

  1. Well actually, I like it best the way you had it in photo one. It shows a little bit lacy at the bottom, but still looks sturdy like a braid trim because it isn't dangling at all.

Regardless of how you put it on, that color looks so nice with the jacket. Well done!

  2. I love it with the points facing up, as in the last picture! Beautiful job on the tatting!

  3. How about attaching the top of the tatting to the inside of the sleeve? That would make it look more like it belonged to the jacket and hadn't just been tacked on as an afterthought. I do love the edging and it would be a shame not to use it.

  4. I like the upside down version.
Maybe you should try something closed on both edges, so it would be more heavy?

  5. Thanks so much, you guys! I am going to keep on going after I read these comments... I needed the input!

Sharren - I just do not like it upside down for some reason. but I had to ask!

Caseymini, my sewing is so uneven and the hem is a mess as I had to cut off buttons and a tab so the whole thing is uneven, so I am going with the top pic.

JaneS, Thank you! I thought the same thing, but needed reassurance!

  8. Wishing we lived closer, because my hand sewing is actually pretty good and I would help you. So glad you didn't abandon this project as it will be phenomenal once finished!

  9. I think it looks wonderful upside down and right side up! I guess I'm no help. : )

  10. I like the upside down version as it shows the lace pattern nicely against the fabric. It'll look great!

  12. Your edging is so beautiful and really enhances your coat. It will be wonderful no matter what you decide as each version looks great. Happy Tatting...

  13. I like the upside down one best. To me it looks like it was intended to embellish the sleeves and not just an addition.

  14. I like the up side down version in the 3rd photo best. It disguises the so-called uneven edge, and looks very finished. The top 2 pics where it hangs off the edge look too lacy for the style of jacket that you are adding it to.
are you going to add the same edging to other areas of the jacket? or only the cuff?

  15. I vote upside-down too :) lovely jacket and great idea to add the edging, by the way.

  16. Wow! Thank you! Upside down is really working for me. i will show you when it is finished!

Hi Elizabeth! Great to hear from you! : ))

Ladytats - NO! This is all I will do and this tatting goes FAR beyond my comfort level! I do not wear tatting ever!!! It is just not my thing.

  17. Well, looks like the vote is overwhelming for the upside down and that would be my choice too! Though I also like the halfway up version. Looks great and I love your colour choice. Look forward to seeing the finished jacket.

  18. I love the third choice, points upwards, it shows the lace without being lacey.

  19. I think you made a great choice. It looked too lacy for this jacket design in 1st two photos, but it's perfect in the last photo.

  20. Great choice of colour, goes well with the coat, I would put it on as per the last picture.
Thank you for the lovely comment you left on my blog yesterday

  21. I love both upside down, and half way. I think that edging works really great with the jacket!

  22. Ha, well I'm with them ^. Upside down it is :) Totally the right pattern though, and that colour works really well too. Glad you decided to carry on!

  23. Sure, I'm late to the party, but I just can't be quiet all the time, can I? ;-) I like the upside down version the best! I have a reason for it: I think that it gives a nice "cuffed" look that really works well with the jacket style, in my mind... :-) I could be wrong about the 'cuff' thing, but that's what it made me think of, so that's the thought you get! :-P It looks wonderful in all pictures, but I like that best! :-) I know whatever you choose to do in the end will look gorgeous and leave me jealous... :-P
