Forgivingly Blip-less

# Motif Challenge
Another beautiful Cluny pattern by Elisa

I do forgive Jane, for her effervescent encouragement for me to begin tatting another border, ONLY because I am so enchanted with her blipless-join technique!  It is amazing!  (The next motif I post will demonstrate this technique more clearly than this one, where I did not utilize it as much...)

I have always been perturbed by the colour blips, yet had no idea how to get rid of them completely. I think I hid them fairly well by tatting conscientiously at the join, but this trick just eliminates the whole frustrating problem.  I used it in this motif and am using it in a little heart I am tatting to use up that pink thread.

Afterthought:
I forgot to say that the variegated thread is Lizbeth, #40, and the plain pink is Altin Basak, courtesy of my friend, Suneeti.

I have to confess that I really like this #40 Lizbeth, which does not do anything BAD as does all my other Lizbeth.  It is silky, smooth and a joy to use.

This pattern is on Elisadusud's blog and is pretty, isn't it?

  1. Oh, what a lovely pattern: you can see the hand of Elisa. Those cluny laaves are really great!
As for the run, Fox, the charming young lady you might know from my blog challenged me to participate in the Marikenloop in Nijmegen, Holland, which is a run for ladies only, they expect 10.000 female runners. The revenues go to women in the third world, so women run for women. I'll go whatever it takes, if necessary, I will limp my way through!!

  2. Glad to see somebody using it after it caused me weeks of puzzling about 'how to'!!!!

  4. Hi Fox

I am going to have a closer look at Janes blipless-join technique but I was wondering if you could ask Nora Needle if she thinks it would work for needle tatters?

  6. Very nicely done! Sometimes blips bother me and sometimes they don't. The more obvious they are, the more they do. Going from a variegated to a solid, I don't worry about it but two strongly opposing colors have a more significant impact. If I'm just play-tatting (seeing how a pattern works out for me) I don't care, but if it's a gift or going on something that will be displayed, I care.

  7. Kelly, It seems to N.N that it is the same for both shuttle or needle - just go back down through the space after you put the needle through the picot... : ) Fox

  8. Wow! I thought for a second that I WAS on Elisadusud's blog!
Do you use a loom for your clunies?

  9. Your motif is positively scrumptious! Elisud's is a beauty too, both of you get a "Whoop! Whoop!" (since it is Friday) accompanied by fist pumps.

And of course Jane gets the love too for the blip-less joins!

  10. Maureen - What a compliment!

Good grief - no! I tried a loom ONCE and could not stand doing clunies that way. Very cumbersome for me.

  12. Beautiful pattern, and I love your rendition of it with the varigated thread. I haven't tried Jane's technique yet (I'm really lazy) but I see it works perfectly. Your clunies are wonderful. I have resorted to creating them by embroidery with the woven picot stitch (told you I'm lazy) but have yet to try it within a tatting motif. Have a great weekend!

  13. So you're off and running again! You must be able to get by on very little sleep!

Obviously you have not forgotten how to make clunies! They are perfect, and the motif is so attractive.

Thanks for the link to Elisa's blog! Her cluny designs elevate tatting to a high art! One fantastic design after another! If she published a book of all her designs, it would be breathtaking!

I even clicked on one of her videos and was amazed that she makes clunies actually look do-able! I just might give them a try!

  20. Lovely motif, I think I must look at Janes blog again, have just tatted a new pattern to me and its fully of blips, but it was a muti coloured thread, well thats my reason but I was not very good and in pain when I did it, so that might be another reason for my blips.
