Question to Tat-Land

Downward facing Picot of Jane's can be found here.  Stumbled on this info reading totusmel's blog - here.
Does this mean that you can use this technique for the pattern that I had so much trouble with:

This is my rendition of Vinnie's Spring Doily and the pattern can be found here  - where you have to add a safety pin to hold the picot DOWN.

Would this work here? It would be so great if it did!

  1. Well, I couldn't find her instructions; but, did find your diagram. If it calls for a picot to be pinned downward; then, I'd think a downward facing picot would be just the ticket.

Jane sent that to me a couple of years ago and it has been a real 'boon' in my tatting. Very handy technique to have in one's head!

  2. Yes, I used Jane's technique ( which I learned from Anna Burda many years ago) in this pattern.

  4. I would think so. I'm lazy and hang a paperclip but there's more than one way to peel a potato!

  5. It would definitely work, but the effect will be ever so slightly different. As written, the picot is on the core thread, causing a sharp "dimple" in the chain. When the ring below is joined, it looks just like if the ring had been made first and the chain joined with a lock join.

Jane's down picot does not affect the core thread. Without actually trying it, I suspect that there would not be quite such a sharp dimple at the join. Of course, I could be completely wrong. Knowing you, you'll probably try it both ways and see!

  6. Sorry I can't help as I have not either but your doily is lovely. May I ask what thread you used? The colour is so pretty.

  7. Hi umintsuru,
This was done a while back in Altin Basak #50. I don't know what colour number.

I just posted now it so people could know what I was referring to.
    The original post was here:

Glad you like it. It is a fun tat and the pattern free.

  8. I remember now. Where has my memory gone? But this time the colour of the thread just got to me. Love the subtle colour changes.
