Two Years Tatting!

This is as good as it gets.  However, it is a great end to the year - two years in fact -  that I have had a shuttle in my hand. Yes, I have now completed TWO YEARS of tatting since I was given that magic shuttle and learned to tat..

You know I really did try with the clunies, but I think I am going to step away for a bit.. I just do not have much satisfaction from completing this one.  Thought I'd be overjoyed.  Funny, I was not expecting the lack of the usual pleasure of completion - probably because the skills are still so undeveloped.  Fuel for the future.

In Process:  For The Boss

  #18 Motif Challenge

This will be fun to tat and I am going to add lots of BREADS  -  that would be BEADS! (Thanks, Bob!)  The Boss loves these colours and she is always happy to get a tatted little something.  She is a great audience!

.......... drumroll.............
Introducing
The New Cluny:
Miserable Roll Tatting

Help comes from The Tatting Cavalry:  sewmuchfun.  See her beautiful example of roll tatting here.   If only I can follow her excellent advice. This will probably be the subject of future moaning and complaining.  Be warned.

Ordered this book as it was used and in great shape and very inexpensive - as if  THAT minor inconvenience would deter me!  LOL!

I forget whose work I was looking at, but the author of the blog said this was the book that had the pattern of the motif pictured in the post was from, so I had to have the book, as I loved the piece.

Not a bad reference book.  Nothing special though.  Then I read the first few pages and found this...

It was the "simple to do" and "requiring little effort,"
fast on the heels of my Cluny  misadventures that I found a tad ironic!

Update
Transformation of The Lamp

Looked at some old photos, I am amazed at the changes I have gone through over the past two years. As this month marks the very beginning of my tatting life; it seems fitting that I post a new photo of my constant tatting companion:  The Lamp.

  2. "Requiring little effort or eyesight..." LOL!!! That author has obviously never unpicked black size 80!

I think your clunies actually came out really well. You notice that I never display clunies on my blog.... And I love those delicate greens, too.

Nice pics of the lamp. I've never seen the Heart's Desire pattern done in two colors before. It looks very nice like that.

Congratulations on your tat-iversary! You've come such a long way.

  3. Wow, I can't believe you have only been tatting for two years. You are so prolific with your tatting - you put us other newies (aka ME) to shame.

    Great work.

  6. Congratulations on your 2 year tatting anniversary! I kept meaning to comment, but haven't yet - your clunies are beautiful! That's one thing I've failed at miserably. It seems so awkward that I can't even bring myself to keep trying. Needless to say, my two lonely attempts at making clunies failed miserably...

  7. Oh Fox! I am with Arty Lady...I know what your profile says...Only TWO YEARS!! That is just astounding...!
And also...your lamp would bring a tear to a glass eye...what a beauty!
Here's to the next 24 months of hard work discovery and joy! Keep it up!!

  8. Thank you all so much.

One note - I have done a HUGE amount of tatting in 2 years, and I believe most people would not have put in the hours I have over the past 24 months.

I think I am certifiably obsessive! So many hours. If the effort did not show positively in my tatted pieces, I would be ready to approach a cliff!

Would not have stuck to it without the support I get from your wonderful comments.

  9. Happy Anniversary! Can't believe you've only been tatting for two years!
I do like the colour of thread on your clunies.
Is there a cure for tataddiction?

  10. Hey Fox!
That lamp is a BEAUTIFUL thing and has truly evolved in the last two years! Your tatting and sense of color are a PLEASURE to behold. It's been a little over a year since I discovered your blog and I'm VERY glad that I did because you inspire me.

I think your cluny motif looks wonderful! They all have a nice shape and the color of the motif is positively FRESH!

Cute button for The Boss's project - I love it when you tat for The Boss!

I'm glad to know (according to your new book) that I don't need good eyesight to tat. And to THINK I bought cheaters because I thought it was important to be able to SEE the stitches - coulda saved THAT dime!

    Congratulations on your Tatting Twos!
    :) Ann

  11. And it has been a wonderful two years of following you for me too. Enjoyed reading about the boss and mini boss, your mastery of T.A.T, the attack of the clunies, and the mutilation of shuttles(?).

What a two-years of tatting you have had. I won't mind many more of this if you are still up to it, :)

Congratulations Fox on all your achievements.

  12. Adding my congratulations also, you have almost come further in 2 years than I have come in 7!
But I would like to ask what exactly it is that you are making for The Boss? - a brooch? At first I thought it might be one of those dummy-holder things for babies, but the Boss is too big for those now - I am intrigued!

  13. Has it really been two years? Congratulations! You've accomplished so much!

The part that caught my eye was, "tatting has been the means of bringing great joy into the lives of many thousands of invalids." Hah! That just cracks me up! Most of the tatting blogs I read are maintained by ladies and gents who have so much going on, I'm amazed they have time to tat! Of course, when I broke my wrist, reading about tatting did bring me great joy!

At least you've tried clunies. I just keep reading about them and watching YouTube videos. The thought of doing them can bring on a headache. Your stick-to-it attitude is an inspiration!

  14. Shucks! Love all the above. Sitting here in my Terrible Tatting Two's and grinning like The Cheshire Cat!

Diane, I must admit, I howled when I read the part about the invalids, but I thought I might sound a bit too WEIRD to emphasize that particular snippet! You are more courageous and provided me yet another good chuckle on Every Woman's Guide to Tatting's dime!
