Poltergeist

 DON'T ASK.

#5 Motif Challenge

This was to have been a relaxing break from the more demanding piece I am working on
v - e - r - y slowly, keeping my promise to pay attention, and to go for quality not quantity.

My new approach is working - in the blue piece - but absolute hell broke out while I was trying to tat that snowflake.

Split thread, cut picots, breaking thread, wrong counts, crossed threads and re-tatting to beat the band...  I finally listened to the furies and threw the bewitched motif into the garbage.

I am certain that object was jinxed, foredoomed to failure; thus, tatted nevermore!

On a gentler note:

Lizbeth #40, Motif Challenge #6

This pattern, by Yusai Shokoin, in A New Approach to Tatting, is a delight to tat. I will be making four squares to form the completed larger motif.

I will not rush; I will be patient. I will not rush; I will be patient.
I will not rush; I will be patient. I will not rush; I will be patient.
I will not rush; I will be patient. I will not rush; I will be patient.
I will not rush; I will be patient. I will not rush; I will be patient.
I will not rush; I will be patient. I will not rush; I will be patient.
I will not rush; I will be patient. I will not rush; I will be patient.
I will not rush; I will be patient. I will not rush; I will be patient.

  1. What a shame when nothing you do goes right. Had the same problem yesterday. And dont you hate it when good thread is wasted!

  2. I love the colors and the designs!! I love that dark salmony pink color and I am not much into pink, but that one sure catches my attention!
Keep on with the more relaxed mode if possible!!! You'll do great! :)

  3. Okay, I won't ask! Been there. Done that. 'Nuff said!

The square motif is bound to turn out beautiful. Are you sure you'll be able to stop at four? After all, you are tatting in blue! (my favorite color, by the way)

  4. I can just see you standing at the chalkboard writing this 100 times. Your blue square is gorgeous. Happy tatting...

  5. Hey Fox!
Thanks for the reminder. I read this post earlier but didn't get to comment then. Your "I will not rush; I will be patient." theme saved me tonight. I'm working on an edging a really like and was tempted to keep working even though I was a little too tired and had come close to breaking a thread by pulling it so tight. I thought of you and stopped. Good thing because Baby Doll tottered out of bed at what would have been a critical juncture. Thanks!

The blue motif is BEAUTIFUL! The color combo is quirky, fun and FANTASTIC!

  7. Hi Guys!

Thanks for the comments. Everybody loves that blue - me included. That is the #40 Lizbeth thread and I love this ball of it. Considering my recent rants about Lizbeth I sheepishly admit, this ball is one of my favourites!

  8. Gee, Fox...looking at the top of your "Don't Ask" blog...I thought for a moment that I was looking at MY WORK. Some days I'm on...some days I'm OFF! LOL! At the very very least...I am not alone!
Your tatting is truly lovely and it is a relief to know that somedays even FOX is...off...

  9. Hi, Leanna!

Off? Moi? Oh YA! So much of the time, it's scary! Ask my kids! I am a real klutz most of the time, and once in a while I score a goody, which I post! The rest of it - I gotta laugh or the world would be a VERY glum place!

    Thanks for the compliment!
