Dr. Threadmore's 'Earthy Rainbow'

24 Motif Challenge

I surprised myself while tatting this motif; I thought I would have a lot of trouble with it.  After all, it is one of Iris Niebach's, and I usually have a bit of a directional challenge with her patterns. However, this one was not too bad at all!  I'm all for progress in that realm!

Actually I did go the wrong way a number of times and had to ...what... retat; untat; frog; retrotat; tonk... what did we all have to say about that?  I'll stick to retat, a word that I do not think was even part of the vote (interesting post, here)!

The HDT is pretty to look at  - an interesting colourway -  and I would like to try it in a finer thread.

Krystle sent a big skein of this colourway in another thread; I will compare it to this one and report.  The next lot is not a regular tatting thread - more of a fine, three ply crochet cotton.

Now, I think I will try to replicate the necklace that Suneeti showed me that she made for her mom using beads and split rings....

P.S. For a better example of what this should look like, and what I aspire to, see IsDihara's blog!

  1. I love the color! Iris's patterns can be challenging, but they're so worth the effort!

  2. Thanks, Diane!
Looking at this again, I am definitely NOT pleased and will try it again!

Where did I see this posted? Someone has done a great example of it and i forget who!
    Fox : )

Is that the same motif that IsDihara did in Daffodil Dell trial 1?

  4. Oh, how clever! You have little hearts in your background to go with the doily!

I've printed the pattern out and will get to it one of these days!

  5. Your Earthy Rainbow motif looks wonderful! And the Iris Niebach pattern is a fun one to tat. So you won't mind doing it again (and again). LOL!

Thanks so much for the shout out to my blog.
